Sidney Yankauer, M.D. (1872-1932), an ear, nose and throat specialist and pioneer in bronchoscopy, practiced at the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. Dr. Yankauer, a prolific inventor of medical equipment, might best be known for the tube he designed for suctioning the mouth and throat. Yankauer introduced the wire-mesh anaesthesia mask around 1904. The drop method involved placing the mask over the patient’s nose and mouth, and then placing gauze over the mesh of the mask. Next, liquid anaesthetic, such as ether or chloroform, was applied in drops or lightly poured onto the gauze so that the patient breathed in evaporated anesthetic as well as air. The gutter around the base of the mask was designed to catch any residue of the harmful anaesthetic. Shears belong to donor's father Maurice Dalton who was foreman of the show floor of the Dennys Lascekkes building until his retirement after 34 years at the building. Maurice used the shears in his work as a wool classer in rural Victoria and New South Wales. The shears are 14" N.1 Combination UTS hand shears made in Sheffield, England.A pair of metal blade shears. The blade is engraved with 'MADE IN ENGLAND / COMBINATION / U.T.S. / SHEFFIELD / N.1'. J.Campbell started a Draper , Outfitter and Milliner store in the Pioneer house on Percy Street in Portland Victoria in 1896. Advertisements found on Trove from November 20 1899 shows the store selling Spring goods, Millinery, Dress goods, prints, piques and muslins. Another advertisement on Trove from September 27 1907 shows the store showing their Spring and Summer Goods, including Choice Millinery, Latest Dress Fabrics, Laces and Silks, Blouses and Skirts.Paper account from J. Campbell, wholesaler and family draper to Mrs Cummings, in the sum of 4/6 for a blouse. Printed form, details handwritten in black ink top right hand corner is missing, and top left hand corner has two holes in the paper. Paper is cream and has darker brownish patches at the top. Set of three brass cast, chrome plated, machined, device or ticket punches used to cancel or punch paper tickets when purchased. Placed a shaped hole in the ticket. Spring loaded, consists of two main parts with a pin & spring from coiled flat metal spring sheet. Some of the chrome plating has been worn off. There are no manufacturer markings on the punches. Found in the roof space at Three Springs, Clematis with various bridles, harness, reins and collars. This is a manual hedge trimmer which has a push pull action. It is not a very common garden tool possibly a lot slower to use than clippers. It dates from mid 20th century.This is quite a rare tool.This tool is consists of a metal bar with a row of prongs attached .
