Medal issued to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Edward Henty's arrival in Portland, Victoria. Edward Henty was born in England in 1809 and migrated to Australia, as did his parents and brothers, in 1829. On 19 November 1834 he sailed from Launceston in the Hentys' own schooner, the Thistle, with stock and a small party. His brother Francis followed the next month with a small flock of merino sheep, the first in Victoria. The Henty brothers began whaling at Portland Bay and took their flocks and herds inland to the rich area on the Wannon River. In the 1840s they were eventually granted pre-emptive rights over most of their lands. Henty was known as a capable and energetic man and regarded as the chief actor in the early history of Portland Bay. He and his wife Anne Marie Gallie moved to Muntham, a 60,000-acre property that became widely known for its merino sheep and Durham cattle. It was also known for its extravagant hospitality - to which Henty's social ambition and vanity contributed considerably. This extravagance and Henty's obstinacy eventually led to the degradation of the flocks. Henty lived in Portland and in his Melbourne mansion, Offington, while he served as a member of the Victoria Legislative Assembly. He died on 14 August 1878Portland Jubilee Medal, 1884. White metal, circular, holed at top as issued. One side features portrait of Edward Henty and text 'HENTY JUBILEE / PORTLAND / 19 NOV 1884' on the other side.

The Naval General Service Medal (NGSM) was instituted in 1915 for service in minor Naval war-like operations. As is the case with other ‘general service' medals the NGSM is always issued with a clasp denoting the area of operations. Subsequent service is recognised by the award of further clasps to be worn on the original medal. Members mentioned in despatches for operations recognised by the NGSM 1915-1962 after 11 Aug 1920 were approved to wear a bronze oak leaf on the medal ribbon. Clasps There have been sixteen clasps issued for the NGSM 1915-1962. The reverse bears an image of ‘Britannia' in a chariot pulled by two sea-horses. The NGSM 1915-62 ribbon has a wide white central stripe, flanked by two red pin-stripes, further flanked by two white stripes, which in turn are flanked by two red outer stripes.naval general service medal

Standard issue United States M1 pattern steel helmet, olive drab in colou, stretch cotton cargo type net, with fibreglass liner. On the inside of a strap in the liner '8415-153-6671' is printed in black ink. This number would appear to be the "Federal Stock Number (FSN)" which was used 1949 to 1975 when ti was replaced by "National Stock Number (NSN)' by additional of 00 after the first 4 numbers. this would indicate that it was made in USA. The chin strap and liner are both complete and fully operable. These helmets were first issued in 1941 to the United States Armed Forces. They were adopted after the Korean War by the Australian Defence Force. In the 1990s they were replaced by the Kevlar based Personnel Armour System-Ground Troop (PASGT) type helmet. However, as evidenced by this helmet, some M1 Steel helmets were not replaced in-service by the PASGT helmet and survived into the early 21st Century. Used by Royal Australian Army in Vietnam in areas where mines were significnat, such as Long Hai's mountains (together with US flak jackets), and also by Royal Australain Navy.An example of an Australian Army issue M1 steel battle helmet complete with fibreglass liner. This helmet type was issued to Australian defence personnel during the Vietnam conflict. The inner line has a transfer on the front " Australian Military Forces" with rising sun badge. The steel outer has an olive green elastic cover (similiar to cargo net) to hold camouflage material. The M1 is two "one-size-fits-all" helmets: an outer shell made of metal and a hard hat-type liner that is nestled inside the shell and contains the suspension system that would be adjusted to fit the wearer's head. Helmet covers and netting would be applied by covering the steel shell with the extra material tucked inside the shell and secured by inserting the liner. The helmet is 7 inches in height, width is 9.5 inches and length is 11 inches. The weight of a World War II era M1 is approximately 2.85 pounds including the liner and chinstrap.
