The first Bendigo Easter Fair was held on April 10th and 11th 1871 and remains one of Australia’s longest running annual community events. Taking place over the Easter long weekend, the Bendigo Easter Fair features events throughout the City of Greater Bendigo and celebrations culminate in a parade through the streets on Easter Sunday. In 1892, large processional dragons became an integral part of the annual parade. The three principal golden dragons are Loong (1892–1970), Sun Loong (1970–2019) and Dai Gum Loong (2019–present), housed at the Golden Dragon Museum in Bendigo. The Bendigo Easter Fair Society is custodian of the Bendigo Easter Fair and continues to support the City of Greater Bendigo’s largest festival. Each year the City produces a poster to advertise the upcoming fair and this one from 2006 had the theme Boomba which may have been a play on the word Moomba, a Melbourne festival which takes place annually in March. Rob Upson became a volunteer at the Bendigo Visitor Centre in 1998. The Staff produced a monthly newsletter called ‘The Grapevine’. Being reasonably new to Bendigo, Rob became interested in its history and began writing articles to share with the volunteers. He called them ‘Grapevine Cuttings’ under the pen name of ‘Merlot’. Rob wrote about 90 articles over a period of 12 years until ‘The Grapevine’ was finally pruned and shutdown. Demonstrates how ESCo managed Weekly tickets during the late 1920's and yields information about the way the system was arranged. The source of the ticket, NSW tramways is significant in that it was obtained by them as a sample. Morning and Evening Weekly Ticket, price 1/3, printed for Week 1, that is not available for Sundays or Holidays. Ticket printed on light weight card, in two colours, light red and light green, numbered 0004 available only between Grant St (Mt Pleasant) and Doveton St. Notes the conditions of use, the time available for which the ticket may be used and where. Printed by J.J. Miller, Melbourne. In the bottom right hand corner has a perforated triangular section which could be removed. Has the words "P.M. Friday" printed on it. Note this part has been taped back onto the ticket. Ticket has been removed from a block - has staple hole at the top. Pilot Officer Robert Charles CARVER, 24, and Flying Officer Michael Patrick John HERBERT, 24, were both career air force officers in No. 2 Squadron, RAAF. On 3 November 1970 their Canberra bomber disappeared from a radar screen while returning from a night bombing mission in the northern I Corps Tactical Zone of South Vietnam. An extensive aerial search of the area failed to find any trace of the aircraft or crew and was called off after three days. In April 2009 the wreckage of the Canberra bomber was located in thick jungle in Quang Nam Province near the Laotian border. Human remains discovered near the site were identified in July 2009 as those of Carver and Herbert and were repatriated to Australia on 31 August 2009 for burial in separate military funerals.Stainless steel open-ended bracelet engraved with missing serviceman's full name and date missing.
