The Shire of Diamond Valley was a Local Government Area located about 20 kilometres northeast of Melbourne. The shire covered an area of 74.38 square kilometres and existed from 1964 until 1994. This example of a Boundary Sign was one of many located on the edge of the Shire e.g. at Wattle Glen Station; at Yan Yean Road north of Bannons Lane; 2 on Plenty Road near Larundel and Bundoora Primary School; one on the Para Road bridge; on Wattletree Road Eltham and on Kurrak Road Yarrambat. According to a former Shire employee, the signs were often stolen as quickly as they were replaced. This sign was removed when the Shire of Diamond Valley was dissolved in 1994 and is signed by a Shire employee, giving it strong provenance.Painted metal sign, cream background with green text and Shire of Diamond Valley crest.Inscribed in felt tip pen on back of sign: SDV: from Nov 1964 to 1994. 30 years. Mrs Quinn writes of receiving a photo album, some books and an ashtray Allan has sent. She tells him how proud she is of her son.Quinn CollectionThree page letter written on two sheets of buff coloured lined paper (0832.a1-0832.a2) headed 5 Pollington Street, St Kilda and dated 31/11/49. Matching envelope (0832.b). Letter commences 'Allan Dear' and concludes '...Fondest love from your Mum...'. The envelope has been re-addressed from C/- Scandinavian Shipping Office, San Francisco to M/S Mongabarra, San Francisco. Post-mark on the front is Melbourne and the Australian stamp is one shilling and sixpence. There is a San Francisco postmark on the back of the envelope and also a promotional stamp 'Save the East. The Mission and the Ladies Harbour Light Guild organised many social events for seamen especially during the Christmas period. This one is one o the many events organised at the St John's College (formerly Cumloden College between 1891-1905) on 195-201 Alma Road, St Kilda East, in what seems to be the gymnasium (as per the ring hanging from the ceiling on the right). The reverend seen at the back could be Canon John Stephen Hart, successor of Canon Reginald Stephen, who welcomed the groups at the school on this occasions.The photograph depicts a group of seamen seated at tables inside a room waiting for a dinner to be served. Only one lady dressed in white is amongst them. This medal was issued to schools in Victoria to commemorate the visit of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip to Australia. They arrived in Sydney on 3february 1954 and left from Freemantle on 1 April 1954.Significant to the history of the state of VictoriaMedal has conjoined busts, Queen crowned, Duke head bare, facing right; around, QUEEN ELIZABETH II DUKE OF EDINBURGH; below in tiny letters the mint name, STOKES MELB. The medal is attached by a metal loop to a bar with pin for wearing, PRESENTED TO THE / CHILDREN BY THE / GOVERNMENT OF VICTORIA The back of the medal has, below a crown, E II R / ROYAL VISIT / 1954 / VICTORIA The back of the bar contains the mint name in small letters, STOKES MELB.Front: Inverse - Bar - presented to the children by the Government of Victoria.
