Volunteering has been an integral part in providing services. Article on the creation of a Vision Impaired Guide to the Old Melbourne Gaol, launched by Dr Denis Napthine, Minister for Youth and Community Services. On November 25, 2005, a time capsule was buried at Vision Australia's head office in Kooyong. As part of the contents, these interviews were put on CD and placed inside the capsule. The capsule is designated to be opened in 2066, to celebrate 200 years of providing services to people who are blind or vision impaired. Portrait of Hans and Letitia Hecht with a description of the Trust they founded. Between them is a page outlining the work of the Trust they established. The description reads: "H. & L. Hecht Trust. Thanks for Sharing Our Vision. The Association for the Blind thanks the H. & L. Hecht Trust for their generous support of our Western Metropolitan Regional Low Vision Clinic. The trust was established by the late Hans Hecht, an immigrant from Germany who arrived in Australia in 1900. He married Letitia Robinson in 1911. A successful importer and manufacturer, he set up the H. & L. Hecht Trust to give something back to the community for the help he and his wife had received. Hans Hecht died in Melbourne in 1965, aged 84. Letitia died two years later aged 87. Annual report of the Association for the Advancement of the Blind outlined activities and events over the year, including continued support through donations despite abnormal conditions caused by the war, less attendances at Country Concert Party events however it remains in a sound financial position, a bequest of 200 pounds was received from Jean Bickford for the purpose of accommodating blinded soldiers at Brighton, the work of the Association has largely been limited in area however with the Secretary's visit to both Bendigo and Ballarat it is hoped that more is possible, a new trade of plaiting bark to make small floral baskets has been added, a near miss was incurred at the 'Re-union' at Woodburn after the hot afternoon helped generate a violent tornado which fortunately missed the Home but created havoc a few hundred metres away, and the loss of several members and supporters, including Mr Young who was killed in a tram accident and Mrs G W Paterson, who along with her husband W Paterson, an active supporter of the Home.1 volume of printed material with some illustrationsassociation for the advancement of the blind, annual reports

This map was produced by Richard Francis Tunley and given to the Victorian Braille Library for use by it's patrons. Mr Tunley was a prolific Braille map maker as well as producing other items for blind and vision impaired children, advocated for compulsory education for blind and deaf children and established the Queensland Braille Map and Model Club. Leading by example, his maps were treasured by those who used them and were an outstanding piece of craftsmanship. In this example, the metal cylinder sits on a wooden base and can be turned via a handle in the wooden top or rotating the sides. A brailled red metal plate occupies the bottom third, and large continents have a metal plate, cut to shape, upon which braille country/continent names are placed.
