An article from the Bendigo Advertiser Amy Huxtable column titled 'Bendigo surgeon and wife make further gifts to Art Gallery.' Mr. and Mrs A. L. Newson donated many pieces of furniture and paintings to the Bendigo Art Gallery. This article includes a photo of a 19th Century mahogany wine cooler. It has zinc lined ice boxes on each side and magnum holders in the centre. Inner cape has 13 cm one piece circular yolk with 7 cm turned over collar. Casing around neck has 4 cm draw string ribbon threaded through. Inner cape is made from one piece of fabric with inverted V shaped insert on LHS extending 40 cm from edge of yoke. Inner cape is fully lined with cotton fabric. Two extra satin lining panels extend from yolk to hem inside both front openings.(7 cm widening to 28 cm at hem). Outer cape is made from one piece of fabric falling 57 cm from the collar. Outer cape is fully lined with cotton fabric with additional satin lining panels inside front openings from neckline to hem ( 8 cm at neck to 30 cm at hem). Both layers have decorative silk embroidery of floral patterns. Outer cape pattern extends down both sides of front opening and continues above the hem line around the cape. The embroidery on the inner cape extends from the lower edges of the front openings and continues above the hem around the cape. Clothing, khaki woollen WW2 army uniform jacket. Single breasted with four brown metal AMF buttons (2 cm). Two breast pockets, (16 X 18 cm) with fold over tabs. All button tabs fastened with 1.5 cm metal buttons. Long sleeves with stitched down cuffs with V shaped peak on upper side. Both sleeves lined with cream and blue striped cotton fabric. 30 cm split at centre back from hem. Button down epaulettes on each shoulder with three captain's pips and two black stripes. Cloth badges on top of each sleeve. 1. Navy and red unit colour, (3 cm X 2.5 cm). 2. Light green, brown and blue colour (5 X 5 cm) (unknown). 2.5 X 2.5 cm square metal badges on each corner at front of collar. 5.5 cm wide cloth belt with metal buckle. Belt attached on side seams at waist by leather tabs threaded through belt keepers and fastened with 1.5 cm buttons. Cap belonged to John Kenneth Martin, padre in 2nd Australian Corps AIF.
