Framed photograph of some of the officers of the 38th Battalion A.I.F taken at Allo(u)nville France during World War 1, topped with a Battalion badge plus some names and relevant information. Brass gift box, presented to serving military personnel in World War 1. Attributed as being the brainchild of Princess Mary, daughter of King George V and Queen Mary. On top of tin the head of the Princess is surrounded by a laurel wreath. Embossed on top 'Imperium Britannicum', on bottom 'Christmas 1914' This tin was found in a secretaire given to Graham Hookey, inside the tin is gold woven epaulette, nibs for a dip pen and a small lock 'Miller' embossed on front. Also enclosed are two medals - one metal 'volunteered for active service' printed around outside of medal, other two appear to be off a uniform, another 'corps of engineers' gold badge. The spoon is a souvenir of the 1964 electoral success of Russell Stokes Liberal MLA for Evelyn.The spoon is a memento of the 1964 election campaign. Russell Stokes was the member for Evelyn 1958-1973. His home was 'Lubra Bend' in Yarra Glen. The item was manufactured by his family firm, Stokes Australasia. Founded in 1856, the firm made a variety of products including the gas lamps in Victoria's parliament and the original 'Rising Sun' badges worn by the Australian Army. The boomerang commemorates the successful 1967 election campaign of Russell Stokes, MLA for Evelyn 1958-1973. It was manufactured by his family's firm, Stokes Australasia Limited. Russell Stokes' home was 'Lubra Bend', Yarra Glen.The boomerang is both a souvenir of an election campaign by a long-serving member of the Parliament of Victoria and an example of metal and enamel work by a Ringwood company that is now over 150 years old. The Victa company was founded by Mervyn Victor RICHARDSON in Australia in 1952 initially to manufacture lawnmowers. This badge was on the back gate of a former shop in Princes Street, Port Melbourne. Object. A 5 cm long ribbon, woven in a heavy weave, with a .75 cm red vertical stripe on each side, and a 1.5 cm vertical light blue stripe in the centre. Three .75 cm bands of brass metal - a shaped strip at top and bottom of the fabric, with a rectangular shaped clasp in the centre. These three clasps have decorative engraved patterns. The lower clasp- called a suspender, has a circular hook at the bottom, from which is suspended a circular brass fitting, holding a metal link, which is attached to a four sided shape, with letters in a circular shape - HTWSSTKS, Lodge symbols are on each side of this perspex shaped hanging. LHS breast pocket has pink and black cloth badge (9cm X 9cm) stitched below pocket opening. Badge has embroidered symbols of an arm above three waves. Straight sleeves with 7 cm slit at wrist fastened with 1.5 cm metal buttons with wheel spoke pattern. Blazer has two 23cm side vents on the back. Half belt (fabric) 5cm X 38 cm across the back above side splits. Padded shoulders. Two internal pockets in the front lining. Blazer partially lined with mauve satin with small random check pattern. This is embroidered with a sun and kangaroo, and a circular badge ennclosing a chain-like border, a crown, and the lettering BE and CG-probably indicating British Empire and Commonwealth Games. Also embroidered on the breast pocket a light and dark yellow/gold sun, with an orange kangaroo super imposed at the centre of the sun. Single breasted blazer. Three flat silver metal buttons, 2 cm diameter, at centre front, (shanked). Francis James Browne died in Sydney 1963. He had a long career in obstetrics and gynaecology. Summary of appointments include: General Practice in Wales, Maternity Department of the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, 1st director of obstetric unit, University College Hospital London. Retired and continued postgraduate teaching in London and NSW. Married to Grace Cuthbert, who was director of Maternal and Baby Welfare in NSW. A collection of objects found amongst Professor FJ Browne's papers were transferred from the Archives to the Museum collection in 1994.Round copper coloured badge attached by two metal links to a rectangular bar.
