Royal Australian Army Ordinance Corps Hat Badge : 1953 to 1960, 1953 to 1960
The Royal Australian Army Ordnance Corps (RAAOC) is the Corps within the Australian Army concerned with supply and administration, as well as the demolition and disposal of explosives and salvage of battle-damaged equipment. The Corps contains clerks, operator supplies (including q-store staff, warehouse staff and food technicians), petroleum operators, parachute riggers and ammunition technicians. Members of the Corps are nicknamed Roaches. Unlike other Corps within the Australian Army, there are no longer any RAAOC specific units, instead RAAOC sub-units sit within mixed units such as Combat Service Support Battalions (CSSBs) or Force Support Battalions (FSBs). RAAOC is also responsible for clerks and quartermaster store staff in all Australian Army Units.Circa 1953 to 1960. Associated with the supply chain and equipment resourcing within The Royal Australian Army. Gold and silver chrome hat corps badge. The reverse has two pin points that a stud affixes to so as to secure to a hat or cap. The top of the badge has a crown shape and the bottom is curved. Hat, Army Officer, 1940s
This is an army officer’s hat from the Australian Army. It dates back to the 1940s before the word ‘Commonwealth’ was deleted in 1949 from the name of the military forces. The Australian Army has used the rising sun emblem in its official insignia since the early 1900s. The owner of this hat is not known. This hat has no known local provenance but is retained for display purposes. This is a khaki hat with an oval padded crown and a rounded peak. The top has four metal eyeleted air holes. The badge on the hat has the Rising Sun emblem. There is a brown leather strap round the brim attached by metal buttons. The inside of the hat has a blue cloth lining with a square of cellophane. Melbourne Legacy
Photograph, Airman, Sailor and Soldier
A photo of three men with the surname Brennan in different service uniforms, presumably brothers. Left is John in Airforce uniform, in the centre Ron in Naval uniform and on the right was Brian Brennan in army uniform. It is assumed to be from World War 2. The link with Legacy is not known (TBC) but presumably one or more of these men became Legatees or they were junior legatees prior to their war service. Many junior legatees enlisted in the services in the second World War. Some returned and joined Legacy as Legatees. It shows the impact of Legacy on their lives that they lived the belief that the spirit of Legacy is service.Black and white photo of three brothers in uniform.Handwritten on reverse 'Brian / Ron / John / Brennan' in pencil.
