Ephemera - Ticket, Victorian Railways (VR), Zone 1 and 2, Travel cards for use from Watsonia and Greensborough Railway Stations, 1981 - 1983
Ticket - set of four paste board or cardboard - Zone 1 and 2, Travel cards for use from Watsonia and Greensborough Railway Stations. Have been dated stamped for periods during Oct. 1981 and Feb. 1983. Travelcard Note the ticket numbers - two from the Railway Printer and two from the Government printer. From http://www.robx1.net/victkt/zone123/html/tc.htm - accessed 2-2-2019 "Travelcard was the flagship of the new zonal system. It allowed unlimited, all day travel on trains, trams and buses - both Government and Private. It may be suggested that this was the beginning of much greater subsidies to the private bus operators to include them under the umbrella of Travelcard. As there was no longer a day return rail ticket, Travelcard was a de facto replacement, but the price structure did not disadvantage customers. Quite simply, Travelcard was a bonus no matter how it was used and it soon proved very popular; so much so that the term "Travelcard" was retained when the zones were replaced by the "Neighbourhood" system in 1983.
