Series of nine black and white photographs (two copies of each) of training tram recovery staff in rerailing trams. Not taken all the same time, as trams very. Rose Series postcard No. P 622, titled ""Melbourne from the Air", Photo looking east over Melbourne with the Melbourne skyline, railway yards, St Kilda Road, Yarra River and Princes Bridge in the view. Three trams can be seen in the view in St Kilda Road. The building in the middle bottom of the photo is the recently completed Australian Provincial Assurance (APA) Assocation Limited Head Office on the south east corner of Collins and Queen Streets. This 1889 building was refaced and the tower added in 1928-1929. The adding of three additional floors to the Bank of Australasia building, 1875-1876, is well in hand 1929-1931 on the north west corner of Queen and Collins Streets. On the south east corner of the corner of Collins and Market Streets, the new Australian Mutual Provident (AMP) Society Head Office is reaching full height, also constructed 1929-1931. It is a very busy and congested scene with motor and horse-drawn trucks, cars, cyclist and pedestrians. Note the man in a peaked cap in the bottom right-hand corner - a Chauffeur? There is advertisement for "War Saving Certificates" on the balcony of London Stores. Other retailers in Elizabeth Street are Brash's music and Wittner Shoes. The new Royal Bank building is visible on the corner south east corner of Collins Street. Document - SSB Passbook - PMTT Tender Deposit, State Savings Bank of Victoria (SSB), 1916
The passbook was used to record the Tender deposit for a PMTT Contract, No. 77 for Rolling Stock. It was opened on 2/5/1816 with a deposit of 69 pounds and closed on 2/11/16 with interest having been paid.Demonstrates Business practices of the time with regard to tender deposits.Light blue covered bankbook with red spine with the account number 230,119. It has two pages of deposits and payments. The Depositor was the Prahran and Malvern Tramways Trust. Set of seven Kodak white cardboard 35mm colour slides by Len Millar of the move of former VR tram No. 34 from Yarrambat to the TMSV site at Bylands on 18/4/1974. Reference June 1974 issue of Trolley Wire. Note the Brill 77E trucks i the background were obtained at the same time. These would have been 5'3" gauge and it would appear that the tram was placed on a set of MMTB No. 1 trucks. Len Millar advised 21-7-2021 - that Trolley Wire says that the tram was obtained from a private property on the banks of thee Plenty River at Yarrambat, It was perched on a steep slope only 50 metres from the house, but two kilometres in from the nearest road. Several horse-drawn vehicles can be seen travelling along an unmade road. Piles of excavated dirt can be seen along the side of the road.
