It was given to her on the occasion of her wedding to James Dickson in 1888 The case was present from her future husband..Mary Dickson's father John Cramond was a partner with her father in law James Dickson Snr. when they established a general store in Warrnambool in 1856. This store known as Cramond and Dickson was a prominent and elegant one in Warrnambool until it closed in 1973. This item is of considerable significance as it is part of an important artifact, a travelling case belonging to Mary Dickson an early member of the Warrnambool pioneering Cramond and Dickson families This is a silver backed clothes brush with horse hair bristles. Document - Pass, Greek Ferry Boat Pass
Several items were given by a seafarer, Mr Nicholas Garlick (1926-2009) into the care of Father Brady who retired from St Pauls Cathedral, Melbourne in 2018. Father Brady later donated the collection of; objects, documents and an extensive collection of cruise ship menus (1937-end of 20thC) to the Mission via the intermediary William Hastie, volunteer at the Mission for Seafarers. This particular item provides an example of a ticket for a Greek ferry the 'Apostolis' boarded on the 13th August 1949 by Mr Garlick's sister.This ferry pass for the Greek ferry 'Apostolis' is made of thin, cream-coloured paper. On the front of the ticket the official details are printed in Greek. The passenger details are hand-written in Greek. On the back is a note written by Mr Garlick. Front; see image for details. Back; 'A Greek Ferry Boat/pass. John William (Jack) was the son of William and Mary Sneddon and brother of Alan. William Sneddon was a postman in Surrey Hills for many years. His father James ran an estate agency in Surrey Hills established by his father in the 1880s. William's wife was Mary Sneddon (nee Bird). Jack was born in 1908 in Camberwell. In 1937 his address was 19 Albert Street, Surrey Hills. Journal - John Creamer, Dairyfarmer, 1916 - 1942
Dairy farmers kept a journal to record their transactions and business on the farm. John Creamer's daughter Mary Cardwell has her father's journal covering the years 1916 to 1942.The journal was kept by local dairy farmer John Creamer who farmed at Gundowring in the Kiewa Valley. It consists of names of local people and is representative of the business (produce and life) on the dairy farm at the time.Photocopied A3 sized pages from John Creamer's dairy journal covering the years 1916-1942. The book has an alphabet index for people's names with details of their purchases (eg. mutton and potatoes) with the cost in pounds shillings and pence. Page 15 has the title "Sows When Due to Parrow" and lists the cows by name. Only pages 1 to 61 have been copied except for pages 39-41, 49, 54, 55. The rest has been digitised. Commonplace postcard sent by Frank O Brien World War One veteran and former patient of the repat, to his father from France during World Ward One. This item is not of great significance. Its value to the hospital collection is that it is memorabilia of Frank O'Brien a former patient and benefactor of the repat. Other Frank O'Brien items in the hospital collection White cardboard decoratively embossed mountboard surround and cardboard backing. Centre contains an embroidered muslin with the Australian Commonwealth Military Forces Rising Sun Emblem surrounded by the Australian and British flags with leaf decoration. The store is understood to have been first owned by the Treloar and Nicholls families before being purchased by J. H. Morgan (father of H. R.. Morgan) in the early 1900s.Black and white copy of original photograph which shows the general store run by three generations of the Morgan family when it was being managed by H. R. Morgan (between 1930 and 1956). The photograph shows a store with large windows, a square parapet, and a verandah which is supported by four posts. A petrol bowser is outside the store near the road on the right of the photo. A sign on the parapet reads 'LINTON ECONOMIC STORE', and a sign across the verandah reads 'H.R. "Two hundred men of the Holy Name Society made a striking spectacle on March 26 when they marched through the streets of Daylesford to the Town Hall for a Communion breakfast, after Mass at St. Peter's Church, which concluded a tridium for the men of the parish, conducted by Rev. Father Whelan, P.P. There were many "New Australians" present. Among the visitors present were Mr. C. Condon, Mr. F. Frawley and Mr. Hooper, of the Melbourne Diocesan Union executive of the IIolv Name Society, and also eight members of the North Melbourne branch, beaded by their president, Mr. V. Sheahan. The president of the Daylesford branch (Mr. J. A. Gleeson) proposed the toast of "The Hierarchy and Clergy," to which Father Whelan and Father Moynihan, P.P.. responded. Mr. H. Poulson, vice-president, proposed the toast of "The Holy Name Society," and appealed for in increase in membership. Mr. C. Condon responded. The toast of "The Visitors" was proposed by Mr. H. Lilburne, who referred to the unavoidable absence of Father Day, spiritual director of the society. Mr. V. Sheahan and Mr. Hooper responded." Ian Nunn received the medal from Miss Code when he was 12 years old, believing it belonged to her father Colonel Code who lived at Longlea. Miss Code lived on the family farm on the bankd of the Axe Creek.Ian used to collect the mail and newspaper for Miss Code, who paid him two shillings a week. She gave the medal to Ian as a thnk you. These forms were used by Henry's Timber Company in Newmerella. Hec Pow and his father sold the Newmerella mill to Henry Silverberg and Les Grace. The mill is currently owned by Mectec.Orbost has historically been based on the timber industry, but that industry has declined considerably over the last 20 years. The number of locals involved in the timber industry has declined and many of the mills have closed. This item reflects a time when that industry was a significant contributor to the economy of the district.Twenty-eight dark green hard-backed folders, with black spines and silver metal fastenings, containing wages sheets for employees of Henry's Timber Co Pty Ltd.All have labels with "Henry's Timber Co Pty Ltd" and dates of wages sheets included.
