Clothing. Long pointed sleeves, fastened with one press-stud at the wrist. Full circular skirt, lined with cream, synthetic lace type fabric. Fabric of the gown is a small floral type design,in a corded style, on a fine net backing. Sleeves are not lined. Back upper bodice has a lining in a double thread net. The sweetheart neckline is edged with a fine tulle frill. Bustline panels gathered top and bottom, and joins a peaked midriff panel, 15.5 cm deep at the centre bustline. Clothing. Tulle veil, with a scalloped edge, outlined with chain stitch silk embroidery. The four corners have elaborate silk, chain-stitch embroidery in a floral design. Petals of two large flowers in each corner are appliquéd silk, also outlined with the chain-stitch embroidery. From a photo supplied by the donor, it would appear that this veil was worn around the shoulders, and extending to the hipline. Object. Blue, damask weave fabric sash, 240 ms long(including fringing) woven with a rose design, and with a .8 cm wide white satin-finish stripe, just inside the side edges. A gold type metallic fringing, 5 cms deep, finishes each end. A woven panel just off centre of the sash, includes eleven figures, including children, three shields, a globe hand and heart. Radiating from the words- FRIENDSHIP LOVE AND TRUTH is an eye like shape, radiating light. At the lower edge of the panel, woven into the fabric are the words, MANCHESTER UNITY of the INDEPENDENT ORDER OF ODD FELLOWS. Above the woven panel is an ornate metal star, 10 cm x 10 cm, with eight points, and made from silver metal sequins and coiled wirework. Centre of the star is padded to a height of 1 cm, covered in satin, sequins and wirework in a circular shape. A 7 cm long metal tassell hangs from the lower edge of star. A length of silk ribbon, 1.2 cm wide is attached to the lower edge of the sash, perhaps to tie and hold the sash in position when being worn.organisation, masonic lodge, ceremonial sash

Very fine embroidered silk, three tier skirt - silk embroidery in a swirl design, and featuring small tufts of pink silk. Front placket, and narrow 1.25cm tape waistband. Metal hook and eye fasteners, and two metak hooks at back waistband to fasten bodice. Back sweeps into a small train. Two rows of joined lace form three panels from waist to lower tier. This lace also forms two L shaped decorative panels on upper section of skirt. Lower edge of silk lining has a band of stiffening, which then has an 18cm wide band of pink silk lining the hemline. This pink fabric matches the pink tufts on the fine silk outer layer, and possibly protects the finer fabric at the hemline level. For many years the temperance section of the community was housed in a small building in View Street, Sandhurst. The Temperance Society was formed in 1857 and the foundation stone for a new building was laid in 1895. The new building was designed and erected under the supervision of Mr. J. Blair at a cost of 1,500 pounds. The large hall was used for meeting purposes and the offices were leased out. Corner residence circa 1900: Swedish born Karl Van Damme arrived on the Bendigo diggings in about 1852 and established himself as a tobacconist at 85 Pall Mall, next to the Shamrock Hotel. Although he had been living at the corner of View and Valentine streets in Sandhurst as early as 1883 it was not until 1898 that William Beebe designed a Queen Victoria style building erected by G.A. Davey for Van Damme. By 1905, van Damme, recorded as a tobacco merchant and importer, had established a branch at 143 Pall Mall, near Mitchell street. He sold the business at 85 Pall Mall in 1909, but remained at number 143 until the early 1920s. By this time it was known as Pikes Buildings. Clothing. Cream silk embroidered sleeveless top with a neckline at front and back, which is edged with a fine rouleau binding. The fine silk binding also edges rhe sleeveless armholes. The fabric is woven with a floral woven design. A 2 cm wide tie attaches to the side seams 13 cms below the armholes.The top is sleeveless, and the hemline which is rounded at the side seams, is finished with a self fabric binding. Silk shadow embroidery trims the front neckline, and extends to the midriff. Embroidery is in a floral design. The pyjama pants are full length, with a fine bound finish - probably at or slightly above the ankles. An 11 cm deep V shaped panel at the front waistline, and an elastic casing at the back waistline. A panel of shadow embroidery decorates the side hemline. Clothing. Deep V neckline, front and back, has a tapered tie, at the shoulder to 4.5 cm, and slanted at the lower edge of the tie. The V neckline has a fine binding finish as do the armholes, and the lower edge of the bodice. Shadow, and pulled thread embroidery, in a floral design, outlines the V neckline in the front. A tiny 10 cm x 10 cm heart shaped pocket is bound at the edges and sits at lower right front. A small dart, 1 cm x 6 cm long is below the armholes, on each side seam. Fabric is cut on the cross to add flair. A two cm x 60 cms tie attaches at each side seam, and would tie at the back. Clothing. Pyjama pants have a V shaped waistband 11 cm deep at front and back, below which is a small 1.5 cm wide pleat on either side of front and back. An 11 cm deep plackett on both side seams - on the left hand side two x 1 cm pearl buttons and buttonholes fasten the plackett. The two buttons on the right hand side are missing. A panel of shadow embroidery decorates the outside lower edge of the trouser leg. Fabric is woven with a floral design. Lower edge of legs are finished with a fine binding. 11 cm peak at waistband. Light camel coloured silk (in very poor condition). Long sleeves overlaid with fine black lace in a floral design. Stand-up collar, five cm deep is overlaid with the fine black lace, and finished with a corded braid on the upper edge. Sleeves are tightly gathered at the shoulder tapering narrow at the wrist, giving a ''leg-o-mutton'' effect. 12cm wide fine black lace, attached at the neck edge, and shoulders, forms a ''puff'' decorative over the shoulder, and continues in a ''over-panel'' to the waistline. Ten x 1cm diameter plastic buttons, with a floral impression in them (2 missing) and 12 hand stitched button holes form the front opening. From the lower opening, six ''pintucks'' 12 cm deep, open into pleats at the lower edge, giving fullness to the bodice. Four metal hooks are evident on the lower tucked front and seven hand stitched eyelets are indicated, but are now severely damaged. Bodice is boned with ten X 17cm long bones, and is fully lined with cotton.A tiny 8cmX7.5cm, oval-at-one-end, pocket is stitched into the front opening, at the bustline. WEDDING DRESS. Made by brides mother, the empire line dress of crepe fabric, with guipure lace trim, in 1972. Long slim fitting sleeves, with a 3 cm wide band of lace in a flower and leaf design, around the wrist. The lace also edges the high round neckline, and defines the curve of the panels in the high empire line bodice, and the centre panel of the long princess-line skirt. Wedding veil and headpiece. Soft cream in colour, the fine soft tulle is embroidered with a continuous, curvaceous, chain stitched embroidered leaf design.
