These badges feature an image of the British nurse Edith Cavell. She was shot by a German firing squad in 1915 for assisting Allied soldiers to escape from Belgium. She became an heroic figure of sacrifice in World War One and her image on these badges has been used to promote the sales of them to assist the welfare of Allied soldiers.These badges are significant souvenirs of World War One and were probably sold in Warrnambool and district..1 Circular metal and enamel badge featuring, inside a black oval a drawing of the face and shoulders of a nurse in uniform. KIA 27.1.1916 while serving with the 3rd Aust. Tunneling Coy. This was at "Black Watch Sap Hill 70". The Germans were laying underground mines at the same time as the Australians. The Germans blew their mines at 12.40am, this combined with the Australian ammonal mines made a massive explosion killing over 20 Australians.
