Textile - Tablecloth, unknown
Tapestry is a form of weaving and is most commonly made on a loom, but traditionally, from 11th to the 19th centuries, made by hand. When used as a table cover, items such as this one were often covered and protected by a lighter weight, easily washable tablecloth. This tapestry tablecloth has a soft velvet feel. It has seen many days and has been lovingly repaired in several places with dark patches on the underside. This tapestry tablecloth represents heavy duty table coverings used to protect furniture and as a form of decoration. It is an example of what was used in the Colonial and Early Settler days in Australia.Tablecloth or table cover, rectangular tapestry in burgundy and red tones. A burgundy is around all sides with a floral inner border, framing a decorative oval centrepiece of floral design on a red background. the short sides are reinforced with tape on the underside. The cloth has been carefully repaired on the underside. There are pin marks on the tape in one corner.flagstaff hill, warrnambool, shipwreck coast, flagstaff hill maritime museum and village, maritime museum, tablecloth, tapestry, table cover, table linen, manchester, vintage, arts and crafts -

Geoffrey Kaye Museum of Anaesthetic History
Equipment - Electroconvulsive therapy machine
In 1940 doctors started experimenting with curare for use with electric shock therapy. Electric shock therapy regularly caused broken bones, including vertebrae, and all sorts of dislocations. The intensity of convulsions was high and couldn’t be controlled. During the 19th Century curare was unsuccessfully used to treat rabies, tetanus and epilepsy. By 1935, Harold King had isolated tubocurarine, curare’s active ingredient. In 1942, Harold Griffith successfully used standardised curare (Intocostrin) with cyclopropane. Within five years synthesised muscle relaxants were available. Intocostrin, combined with an anaesthetic agent, was a break-through for this treatment.Solid wooden box with three separate sections inside box. First section contains electrical lead for attaching unit to mains power. Second section contains ECT unit and controls. Third sections contains electrical lead ending in plugs for holding in hands. Sections cannot be separated out, they form one unit.Etched on to the face of the internal unit: PROPERTY OF / THE ROYAL WOMEN'S HOSPITAL Label tape affixed to top of the lid: E.C.T. UNIT OP. Booklet, Warrnambool Woollen Mill 1951-53, 1953
In 1869, the Warrnambool Meat Preserving Company commenced their business on the site, where it operated until 1875 when it was sold to the directors of the Warrnambool Woolen Mill Company. After being destroyed by fire in 1882 it wasn’t until 1910 that the Warrnambool Chamber of Commerce was approached by Marcus Saltau and Peter McGennan to invest in a new mill. The original directors were James Dickson, P J McGennan, Robert Swinton, M Saltau, and J W Younger. In 1955 the Warrnambool Woollen Mill formed a partnership with the Wangaratta Woollen Mills. Dunlop bought the mill in 1968. From that time until its closure in 2000 it had a number of different owners, the last being the Smith Family Industries. This report contains the financial reports for the three years from 1951-1953.This report shows records of the Woollen Mill which was one of the most important industries in Warrnambool for nearly 100 years. As such it has links to many local families and organisations.Light brown paper cover with black text underlined in red. Bound in black tape.
