Photograph of a painting (c.1826) of captain James Fawthrop, Portland's First Harbour master. The painting was executed when he was doing his training in seaman ship at age 22. It is a head and sholders portrait. He is wearing a coat over a buttoned vest, and a neckerchief. He had short, curly hair. -

Duncan and Katrina Munro sailed from the Isle of Skye with their daughters, Christina and Isabella on the 20th May 1854 aboard the ship ARABIAN. Isabella died on board and William was born at sea. They arrived at Portland Bay on 18th (?) September 1845. Their other eight children were born at Portland. (lower centre). -

On base, between side arms, gold - coloured medallion surrounded by Maurel leaves, 'Keeping Portland Ship Shape' - engraved felt on base. -
