Three Page article titled "Hooray for Trams" from the Australasian POST March 10, 1977 pages 13, 14 and 15. Written as a "POST Report" features notes on the demise and debate of whether to have trams or not, Melbourne and Melbourne cable car system. Has photos from Melbourne (electric and cable), Sydney horse tram of 1866, Geelong No. 7, Gothenburg, Stuttgart, Bendigo (Birney No. 30) and Melbourne 1041. On page 16, in the start of "the funny pages" under the Ken Maynard Ettamogah pub has a story of an absent minded professor and his problem of getting his fare out of his pocket on a Melbourne tram. Newspaper Clipping (p7) from "Catholic", No. 178, November 1998, contains the story written by Mother May Oliver, Imp. James O'Collins RC Bishop of Ballarat, January 1945, chapter 7 of "All for All", relating to the life of the 'the young girl countess Elizabeth Wolff-Metterich of Germany. The story revolves around her visit to Melbourne and Ballarat - in particular the visit to Lorretto - sighting of 'a tram (streetcar) bearing 'convent' as its head sign'. The reference to arrival by tram in the article suggests by the author that the Countess arrived by electric tram (by the use of the word 'streetcar'. In actual fact, date of visit was 1898, so it would have be the horse tram. Describes location of loops in horse drawn era compared to those of the ESCo area 1905 to 1934, with reference to changes made to ESCo Loops by SECV upon rehabilitation of the system, based upon changes on BTM's collection of staffs. 1037 - Newspaper clipping from The Sun (Melbourne), April 15, 1972 in the Magazine section of the newspaper, called 'Then and Now' about the closure the following day of the Bendigo tramways. Gives an outline history of the tramway system, and two stories about the tramways, one about a driver named "Hellfire Jack" and an accident between a tram he was driving and a horse pulled dray loaded with tomatoes. First clipping from The Courier, Ballarat, Monday, 28/4/1971 about a plan by Mr Donald Fraser of Lindfield (NSW) to retain the tramway around Lake Wendouree and use Sturt St. as well as Ripon St. Item has map (see image) showing the proposed route and some comments about tramway museums, museums in general and static preservation.
