Henry Ison (1832-1915) was a butcher and cattle agent who lived mainly in the Dunnolly - Tarnagulla area. He married Elizabeth Carter in 1853 and they had 7 children of which 3 reached adulthood. These included their son Thomas (1863-1947). Henry was one of the founding members of the Loyal Prince Alfred Lodge of Oddfellows, a member of the Dunolly Borough Council for 9 years and one of the first trustees of the Dunnolly Racecourse.8524 Three receipts for purchases in early 1900. 8524a Mr. H Ison bought 6 bullocks on 4/10/1904 from Howe & McCulloch. 8524b Mr. T Ison bought 4 pigs, 2 & 13 lambs from Alf. E. Wallis & Co. on 26/07/190?. 8524c Mr Thos. Ison bought a Thurmer piano for 46 pounds on 23/02/1909 from Flights, Mitchell Street, Bendigo.livestock and a piano, purchases in early 1900 -

Program of an evening to celebrate the centenary of the Loyal Balaclava Prince of Wales Lodge No. 4933, of the Manchester Unity Independent Order of Oddfellows (MUIOOF) Victoria, on 10 April 1961. MUIOOF originated in Manchester, England and was established in Melbourne in 1840. By the end of the century, it had an extensive network of lodges throughout Victoria. In 1993 Manchester Unity (Victoria) merged with the Australian Natives Association to form Australian Unity Friendly Society Limited, now known as Australian Unity Limited.Two white pages, discoloured with age, being a cover page and insert, folded and printed on one side in blue and red. The photograph shows the Delegate Lodge with the Orbost Brass Band at Christmas 1892. They travelled by horseback to play for the Star of Delegate Order of Oddfellows. The first Orbost Brass Band was formed in 1889. Around 1908 the town band split and the Orbost Workers' Band was formed. Eventually the two bands merged in 1913 to reform as the Orbost Municipal Band under conductorship of Charles Spink. The band continued for many years but was later disbanded and again reformed. This was to happen a number of times, the last time being in 1961 and continuing through to the late 1970's. It was established in Melbourne in 1840 when Augustus Greeves, a member of the MUIOOF in England, migrated to Australia. On his arrival in Melbourne, Greeves teamed up with journalist Thomas Strode, to form the first lodge—The Australia Felix Lodge. The lodge received its Constitution on 7 December 1840 and this is recognised as the birth date of Manchester Unity in Victoria.” Warrnambool rowing club was founded in 1973, with regattas starting in 1885 and a VRA regatta in 1890. The Manchester Unity Independent Order Of Oddfellows was a friendly society beginning in England in 1840, and provided medical and other services to communities. MUIOOF became strong in gold-rush Australia, with many branches, or lodges, in country centres. Tarnagulla's Loyal Garibaldi Lodge was registered on 21 September 1861, and remained a vital part of the community for many decades. Like other Lodges, this fraternal organisation provided unemployment, sickness and funeral insurance for workers. It played an important civic role by providing financial security, a social outlet and an avenue for status advancement.
