Championship Shield. three of the team are standing behind a table, two are seated at the front ends of the table each side of the shield and one is sitting on the floor holding the long tap. Two of the men at the table are holding an end hose fitting. The shield is a large round one with a circular piece in the centre with a fireman holding a hose. It was filled to a depth of about 20 feet with sawdust and rubbish and caught alight on Anzac night when a bonfire got out of control and was still burning on May 10. Some attempts has been made to put it out but had failed. There was concern for children playing in the area. Lorraine (Frances) Grenfell (current brigade member) Joined June 1969 - married to Joe Grenfell who was a permanent officer until retiring and becoming a volunteer Joined the Bendigo auxiliary in 1969 because her husband was a Permanent staff member and had 3 children: Paul, Michelle and Jacinta. Moved to Wangaratta in 1977 when her husband was transferred here. Was Secretary of the 'ladies auxiliary' (later called the classed as the brigade auxiliary) form 1994 - 1995. -
