He then transferred to the AIF on 3.12.1943 as No VX93892. He embarked for Bougainville with the the 15th Aust Infantry Battalion on 23.11.1944, hospital with Hookworm from 8.6.1945 to 30.6.1945, embarked for Australia returning on 1.6.1946, hospital with Malaria on 17.8.1946.
