In March 2024, Milissa Box (DTP) was at a trash and treasure market. She'd found a $5 photo album for sale with some photos that she thought might be of interest… From what I can gather it belonged to the gentleman pictured who was a worker at Dandenong in the Comeng and ABB eras. He appears to have worked on the Z3, A1/A2, B1/B2 class trams, Hong Kong LRVs, Comeng Melbourne suburban trains, and later the extra Victorian-purchased XP power cars and XAM sleepers to enable the Riverina XPT to be extended to Melbourne. It's clear he was very proud of the vehicles he'd helped to build. I have scanned a selection of the images, which appear to be a mix of official builder's portraits, team photos, and self-taken shots showing candid everyday scenes on the shop floor. Newspaper cutting from the Mail Footscray about W2 227 derailing while turning from Ballarat Road into Gordon St and heading towards the Power Hotel on the Monday (3/8/1981) afternoon. Titled "Whoops - wrong way" See also Reg item 1639 for its subsequent sale to a Lilydale property, though this may not be correct - a check with the tramcar card shows that it was withdrawn and sold during July 1981 and that Z3 227 did not enter service until 1984. The photograph shows Z-class trams 3 and 5 being fitted out or constructed at Preston Workshops, 1975. Z3 has been fitted with a trolley pole and other equipment, while Z5 is on stands. There are a number of people looking at Z5, which indicates a possible workshop tour. The tours database does not give a formal enthusiast tour of Preston in 1975.
