The Bendigo Woollen Mills were initially designed as a mail order company that sold its wool both domestically and internationally. The mill uses first cross merino wool from Australia that is then sent to China for scouring before returning to Bendigo for grading, dying and spinning. A dinner held in 1964 for the South Gippsland Group to conduct their Annual Meeting and report to the legatees their progress through the year. The programme shows a mix of the group's financial report, Chairman's report just like an AGM, with the running order and menu of the dinner. The Rechabite movement began in Salford England. In 1861 the first Independent order of Rechabites Friendly Society, Salford Unity, was opened in Bendigo to be called “Star of Bendigo” Tent. It was registered as Number 5 making it one of the first in Victoria. They worked with the Total Abstinence Society to organize lectures and social events designed to prove that entertainment and fun could be had without alcohol. They met in the new Temperance Hall in View Street.Independent Order of Rechabites, Salford Unity. Male ceremonial badges. A copy of a blank order form for Badge Appeal that was used in the 1960s. It mentions that the badges could be provided on a sale or return basis. Probably issued to Legatees prior to badge day. There was a carbon copy panel that allowed the name and address to be duplicated as a record of what was issued. Also a Volunteer Tag that was worn when selling badges. They were compiled in a folio of proforma stationery. Edith Marie Bishop was born 27/7/1907 in Bendigo. In 1937 she married Jim Checcucci who died in 1964. In 1974 she married Tom Lunn.
