... in the Botanical Gardens... on a carriage in the Botanical Gardens Photograph Photograph ...One of the large cannons located in Port Fairy in reply to the threat from foreign invaders. Originally located in the fort on Battery Hill they migrated to various destinations around the town. One of the two originally located at King George Square found its way to the gardens where it occupied several locations before resting at the car entrance to the Gardens - possibly when the Avenue of Honour was planted in Bourne Avenue. A great favororite with the kids of the town, both have now been returned to their original location where they are currently having their carriages refurbished.Black and white Photograph of a large cannon on a carriage in the Botanical Gardensgardens, cannon, botanical, gun -

Reverse: ‘POST...Williamstown Botanic Gardens- Hobsons Bay City Council Cnr ...The original postcards in this series (2013.002 to 2013.018) were generously loaned to Williamstown Botanic Gardens by a private collector for copying. The postcards are evidence of the interest the gardens held as a subject for postcard publishers. The text and images provide a snapshot into fashions, social interests and concerns of the time. The professionally produced images provide a pictorial history of Gardens including changing planting styles, various structures and features of the Gardens eg the aviary, cannons, the fountain, the second Curator’s Lodge and gates. The images offer an opportunity to compare garden vistas with the present day. The many annuals seen in this postcard demonstrates the intensity of Edwardian gardening Colour Postcard of staked flowers (mostly blue) surrounding a grassed area with a circular garden in the centre and trees in the backgroundFront: ‘The Botanic Gardens, Williamstown’.
