Slide - DIGGERS & MINING. DIGGERS AND MINERS, c1850s
Diggers & Mining. Diggers and miners. In some localities, diggers formed co-operative parties to mine for gold in a small way. But, in general, the exploration of deeper deposits was outside the capacity of the diggers, who lacked both the capacity of the diggers, who lacked both the capital and the technical knowledge required. So wealthy men formed gold mining companies, which established gold mines to exploit the deeper deposits. Markings: 23 994:LIF I. Used as a teaching aid.hanimounteducation, tertiary, goldfields -

Printmaking - Monoprint, Wendy Bolger, 'Impulse 1, 2 & 3' by Wendy Bolger, 2002
This item is part of the Federation University Art Collection. The Art Collection features over 1000 works and was listed as a 'Ballarat Treasure' in 2007.Three framed monoprints by Wendy Bolger. Artist's statement: These works evolved from an exploration in mark making, in particular, the simple gestural mark. The involvement in the process of making spontaneous market, raises awareness to the presence of the opposite element - discipline, which is essential for a successful artwork. In Zen Philosophy the idea of discipline in spontaneity, and spontaneity in discipline is reflected in this process. The interplay of opposing forces is a significant dynamic, visually surfaced as random marks and geometric shapes, in these works, The pull towards balance always being present. art, artwork, wendy bolger, printmaking, monoprints, human movement collection -

Sculpture, Mandy Gunn, Fire Sticks, 2009
Gunn’s work explores political and social values through the mediums she uses and the inspiration she draws upon. In 'Fire Sticks', Gunn uses recycled material as an explorational response to throw away culture, while the design draws inspiration from the sticks used in firestick farming and the charred remains of flora after a fire, which highlights the history and place of fire in Australia.Wangaratta Art Gallery Collection. Churchill Island Heritage Farm
Photograph of HMS Lady Nelson Replica, >1986
The HMS Lady Nelson was commissioned in 1799 to survey the coast of Australia. The initial exploration of the Bass Strait by Commander James Grant has long been believed to be the marker of the discovery of Churchill Island by Europeans and there have been tales that Commander Grant was the first European to set foot on the Island. While there is little proof of this, the photograph still serves to contextualise this event and show what the Lady Nelson looked like.Black and white photograph showing a ship with pennants and no sails. Ship is on the land, displayed by the side of the road. There is a series of low slung buildings in the background. Through preliminary research, it appears this is a replica model of the HMS Lady Nelson built in 1986 that is located at the Lady Nelson Visitor and Discovery Centre in Mt Gambier.Catalogue number in pencil on reverse.
