The Maurer family have historical links to the Greensborough area. Marble Hall has been demolished. This is a rare photograph of the interior. Photograph of "Marble Hall", Greensborough. The Marble Hotel, Greensborough was located at the corner of Main Street and Para Road. The first licensed hotel in Greensborough and one of the earliest brick buildings was built by James Chapman in the early 1850s as a hotel and lodging house to cater for wood carters and those trying their luck at the gold fields but served many functions over the years including post office, general store, public hall, butchers, bakers, surgery, private dwelling and baby health care centre. It got its name due to its white washed exterior. The Farmers Arms Hotel was built on the corner of Main and Hailes Street Greensborough in 1864 by James Iredale to cater for the ever increasing number of wood carters and other hauliers carting their wares between Melbourne timber mills and the gold fields. The Farmers Arms Hotel site is currently occupied by the Greensborough Hotel. The proprietor, Mr Monaghan, demolished the Farmers Arms to make way, in 1925 for the new Greensborough Hotel. Dining Hall 1934. Part of a collection of photographs of the Jesuit Seminary in Grimshaw Street Watsonia. Opened in 1934, this was a house of formation and study for the Society of Jesus. Part of a collection of photographs of the Iredale family, descendants of James Iredale (arrived Greensborough c1858) and his son George (arrived 1873). The man in this photograph has not been identified. Note: The (new looking) Rechabite Hall Roof in the background. In the 1906 Sands Directory, listed as the caretaker as being Arthur Iredale. The Iredales lived between the Rechabite Hall and The Farmers Arms Hotel. Grave of William J. Hall (died 1883) in Plot# G7 Greensborough Cemetery. Photograph taken by Noel Withers 30/07/2009.Greensborough Cemetery was created when land was given for the cemetery by Mr William Poulter, a local settler, about 1864. The cemetery holds the graves of many of the early settlers in the district. The cemetery holds approximately 250 grave sites with 350 people buried there.
