Newham is a rural village 8 km north-east of Woodend and 65 km north-east of Melbourne. It is to the north of the Mount Macedon range. It was named after the Newham pastoral run (1848), which is thought to have been named after the birthplace of the run’s proprietor, Edward Dryden, Newham, England. Robert Charlton conducted a blacksmith, wheelwright and farrier business on the corner of Evans and Station Street, Sunbury from 1918 to 1940. The aerial photograph shows the market garden situated on the river bend and flat of the Deep Creek at Bulla. In the 19th Century a hotel occupied the site. After World War II the property was owned by the Hughes family, who grew flowers. Chris. Christiansen was the photographer in Sunbury from 1892 to 1916.
