Yields information about the appearance of Sturt St following the introduction of electric trams in 1905 and has a strong association with the work of Sovereign Hill and Rose Stereograph Co.Postcard reproduction - coloured - of an ESCo tram near the intersection of Armstrong St. and Sturt St. travelling west along the south side of Sturt Street with the Post Office and bank buildings on the corner of Sturt and Lydiard Sts in the view. Photo appears to be taken soon after opening of the electric trams, ESCo tram has destination board on the front dash of the tram. The photograph shows Sylvia Mitchell (No. 42) and Tom Young (17) standing by the doorstep of a single trucker tramcar. Note no lining on the tram, door opening mechanism, uniforms, conductors bag, and badge numbers 17 and 41 respectively. See item 3600 for another photograph in good condition. On the rear of the photo is written Sylvia Mitchell (conductress) and Alf Mercer (driver). The cap number 17 aligns with Tom Young - see item 2980. Demonstrates aspects of the Ballarat Tramways in the the mid 1940's when Conductresses were employed during the war. Demonstrates a souvenir item for the opening of the electric tramways in Ballarat in the form of a postcard which has actually been used to send a message. Has a strong association with the people who sent and received the card.Postcard size Souvenir Tram ticket, printed using blue ink on one side with fare, photos of power station, engine room, boiler room and a tram & No.10344 stamped on edge. On reverse side is space for stamp, address etc., - with line & "postcard' etc., printed in red ink. Letter/note to Ethel Hodgson of Lethbridge, stamped in Ballarat on 26-8-1905. Fares given on card are : Mount Pleasant and Orphanage and Grenville St. 3d, or Grenville St. and Tram sheds 3d. Printed in a blue/grey ink of various shades onto a white card. Acted as a souvenir card. One Penny stamp, with Ballarat Cancellation stamp and - "5" stamped on the top of the postage stamp. (Rupert should be Robert - see page 138 of Alan Bradley's book, The Golden City and its Tramways) - at the Gregory St terminus. Yields information about the appearance of Sturt St following the introduction of electric trams in 1905 and has a strong association with the work of Sovereign Hill and Rose Stereograph Co.Postcard reproduction - sepia coloured - of an ESCo tram near the intersection of Doveton St. and Sturt St. travelling west along the south side of Sturt Street. Photo appears to be taken soon after opening of the electric trams, as the tramway is well paved compared to the rest of the street which shows vehicle tracks etc. Small horse drawn vehicle crossing in front of the photograph.
