Ticket punch formed from pressed metal sheet, nickel plate finish, fitted with an internal wire spring inset to the handles, ticket retaining strip that punches a large rounded hole. Type was used in Melbourne during the Travel card era at stations and on trams to cancel tickets. A low cost unit. Set of four brass cast, chrome plated, machined, device or ticket punches used to cancel or punch paper tickets when purchased. Placed a hole in the ticket. Spring loaded, consists of two main parts with a pin & spring in addition. . Some of the chrome plating has been worn off. There are no manufacturer markings on the punches. .1 - number P1554 - punches a four pointed hole - would have been used at Preston Depot. .2 - number 1079, punches a hole in the shape of a club as on a card game. .3 - number 1113, punches a four pointed hole. .4 - number 190, punches a heart shaped hole. Prepaid MMTB tickets for use on MMTB services. Has the conditions of use on the rear. These were printed in sheets and torn off as needed by the issuing hospital or service for use by an Incapacitated soldier. Has been punched at section 6 on the inbound journey. The MMTB 1975 Sections and Fares book for example on page 86 advises that they were issued to ex-servicemen who have suffered the loss of an arm as the result of war service.
