The shield design is symbolic of the protection provided to those who wear it. Within the badge, red represents the blood ties of war that exist between comrades; white stands for the purity of the motives in joining the league – to render service without personal gain or ambition; and blue indicates a willingness to serve a comrade anywhere under the blue sky. The wattle represents Australia, with the leek, the rose, the thistle and the shamrock standing for Wales, England, Scotland and Ireland respectively. Badge issued to 3978 Private Wilfred FITTON born in Lancashire England, enlisted in the AIF in Melbourne on 28/7/1915. Equipment - Brief Case
This briefcase belonged to Tom Aldrick, SERN VX91434. Tom was born in WARRAGUL VIC. He enlistmented in ROYAL PARK VIC. His next of kin was - ALDRICK J. The briefcase was captured from a Japanese soldier by HQ Company 2/14th Infantry Battalion, as shown by the Japanese inscriptions. The case had some documents inside. It was donated to Dandenong RSL in 1983.Black leather brief case with carry handle on top. It has one central metal slide locking facility. Has two buckles on either side of central lock to secure briefcase. There are a couple of Japanese words inscribed with texta on the inside of the brief case. There is also the name "T & R.E. Aldrich Bayles" written with biro the inside of the briefcase. -

Equipment - Mess Kit, S&H Ltd, 1938
This mess tin belonged to MELIA JAMES HENRY : Service Number - VX18960 : Date of birth - 08 Oct 1900 : Place of birth - WARRINGTON ENGLAND : Place of enlistment - CAULFIELD VIC : Next of Kin - CHURTON MARGARET The mess tin was manufactured by Sellman & Hill (S&H) Ltd from Wolverhampton. British aluminum mess tins were used by most of the Empire early in the war. A new pattern of mess tin was developed for the Web Equipment 1937 Pattern, which was a nested, two-piece rectangular mess tin with long, folding handles. Mess tins were used to prepare or heat food but they were also used as a container from which to eat and drink. The tins were lightweight and sturdy but they became hot very quickly when heated. Mess kit consisting of two pieces: One rectangular aluminium mess tin from WWII with multiple hand-carved inscriptions on outside indicating owner and locations he was stationed in 1940 and 1941. Welded handle attachment, although handle itself is missing. There is also a small, flat bottomed aluminium cup.Multiple hand-carved inscriptions on three external sides of the mess tin: Side one: "1940 Palestine / Egypt / VX18960 / Dvr Melia. J / AASC / 1941 Libya" Side two: " BARDIA / GREECE / TOBRUK" Side three: " Gaza / Beit Jerga / Kfar Vitkin / jaff / TEL-AVIV / Jerusalem / Nazareth / Haifa" Manufacturer's hallmark stamped on side four: "S.&H. Memorabilia, 30mm Gun Cartridges
Two alloy ammunition cartridges from a 30mm DEFA (Direction des Études et Fabrications d'Armement) revolving gun used in aircraft. According to the markings on these cartridges, they were manufactured by the Munitions Factory in Footscray Vic. in June 1971. They were most likely used in the guns of the Mirage aircraft of the RAAF. 30-550-DEFA, 6MF71, FR on base. 30-550-DEFA AP 5401MEM and some illegible marks on the side. -

Album full of personal photographs of war experiences for soldier Jack Devlin. Morron covered photograph album with 19 loose pages. Front and back cardboard and leather cover seperate, no spine. Pages held in place by black shoe lace tied on left side. Photographs glued into album on both sides of pages. Total of 103 photos, black and white, 4 photos loose. Each photo has corresponding short handwritten description below or beside it. Album photos range from 1942 - 1945 in locations ranging from Port Moresby, Darwin and Cairns and relate to a soldiers war experiences. Photographs include local people, vehicles, cemetary, bombed out planes, villages.
