Like many bridges of the period, it had a timber superstructure employing squared beams supported by struts and straining pieces, on cut bluestone abutments. The bridge was remodelled around 1900 by engineer John Monash of the famous bridge-engineering firm of Monash and Anderson. It was last used for heavy vehicular traffic in 1980 following the realignment of Marysville Road, and was left to decay until its demolishment in 2008. All timber traces of the bridge were destroyed in the 2009 Black Saturday fires. Traffic island at intersection is lined with white-painted bluestone edging which originally was part of the Eltham lock-up situated at 728 Main Road. The bluestone has since been re-used (from late 1980s) at the rear of 728 Main Road to form the garden bed in car park. Gold Fever illuminates Drury Lane walkway entrance to Bridge Street Mall. The multiple metal forms act like mobiles suspended from the wall line out into the centre of the walkway. The flexing motion of the rolled metal and traffic reflectors wrapped on the ends creates movement and reflections in the laneway. This movement follows a pricing graph for gold from 1851 to 2011. This zigzagging golden graph line tells the tale of the gold rush spreading like lightning across the world. The bluestone bridge which spans the Jacksons Creek was built in 1857 and replaced a laminated timber bridge. Lister's petrol station at the corner of Main Road and Bridge streets. The petrol station replaced Levy's Vegetable and Fruit Market circa 1940s. Mrs Bon Strange and her husband Bert were well known Ballarat residents. When Mrs Strange died some years ago, her extensive slide collection was sorted through and those relevant to Ballarat were gifted to the Ballarat Library.
