The document provides details of the 1917 agreement between the Australian Tramway Employees' Association and the Electric Supply Co. of Victoria Ltd, detailing details and conditions of work and disputes, grievances, discipline, leave etc. Applied to both Ballarat and Bendigo tramways. On page 9 re meals on fare box cars, pages 13 to 16 show the rosters for both systems. Page 11 gives pay rates and a specific rate for Youth Rundle. The photo appears to be taken soon after the opening of the electric trams, as the tramway is well paved compared to the rest of the street which shows vehicle tracks etc. For similar images see Reg. items 834, 838, 2151 and 2659. Shows buildings along the north side of Sturt St. and the building at the SE corner of Doveton St. ESCo tram has a destination board on the front dash of the tram. The photo appears to be taken just before the one used in item 2659 given the shadow of the pole in front of the tram. The photo taken at the corner of Moorabool and Malop Streets, is looking south along Moorabool St. Shows Geelong tram 17 tram about to turn "wrong line" from Moorabool St into Malop St. The tram has the destination of West. Why it is turning at this location is unknown. In the background is another tram running south along Moorabool St along with other trams at the intersection with Ryrie St. The photo shows four buses parked on both streets. In the background are the Solomons store, and the National Bank of Australasia buildings. Has many parked cars. The photo taken at the corner of Moorabool and Malop Streets is looking south along Moorabool St. Shows Geelong tram 4 with the destination of North, about to turn into Malop St with several passengers boarding the tram. In the background is a safety zone sign, the Solomons store, the T&G building, and many angle-parked motor cars. The T&G building is finished. Photograph - Geelong MESCo Bus East Geelong, c1920
The photo shows the Melbourne Electric Supply Co. (MESCo), bus at the East Geelong terminus. MESCo operated the Geelong tram system from 1912 and opened the tram line to this location "East Geelong" in 1923. The terminus was at the Geelong Cemetery, with a wooden waiting room shelter with signage about the building being used for passengers only and prohibiting the posting of bills. The buses ran from the railway station and Moorabool St wharf from 1912 until they were replaced by trams in 1923. The bus is also seen in item 4315. The photo shows a large crowd on an 8 hours (Labour Day) gathered in the eastern end or lower end of Sturt St. The 8-hour memorial or monument is in the centre of the photograph. Has one double-deck horse tram in view along with many other horse-drawn vehicles. On the Ballarat Mechanics Institute building is an advert for "Morrey & Tyler, the Cash Drapers" at 11 Bridge St Ballarat. Also in the view are Ribble, Suttons, E Payne, the Ballarat Gas Co. building and a dentist along with other buildings. In the bottom right-hand corner is an insert photo of the statue "The Flight from Pompeii". Set of three maps, c1977 show the bus routes for each of Ballarat, Bendigo and Geelong along with railways. Provides information on each route, summary timetables, who operated the route and places of interest. Published by the Ministry of Transport in conjunction with the Transport Regulation Board, Bus Proprietors Association and VicRail. By comparison with the posters issued at the time of tram closure, can see the changes made to the routes in each city. Equipment - Part of overhead - corroded span wire, 2024
Items show two different wire terminations - fully wrapped - 7 wires and part wrapped and secured by bending the wire. Shows how the galvanized span wire - 7 strands - can corrode within the insulator and lead to failure if not inspected and replaced. The items were probably erected by the SEC during the mid 1930s and replaced by the BTM 2024. Salvaged from Wendouree Parade during overhead span wire replacement and repair work March 2024 undertaken by the BTM.
