Functional object - Key, Bundy Clock Key - 18A and K116, c1940?
.1 - Key - or Bundy Clock Key - brass, rounded head with drilled hole stamped "Tramways" on one side and "18" on the other side with a steel section that controlled the action of the recording clock and provided the means of stamping the number "18A" onto a paper tape. Used from South Melbourne depot in the time recording Bundy clocks that were located around the MMTB system. Flag, The Met, "100 years of trams", 1985
Flag that could be mounted on wooden dowel for use on Melbourne tramcars. Flag made from nylon or a similar synthetic, sewn into a white nylon circular section and then slipped over the dowel and stapled into position with words "100 years of trams". Appears to have been unused. Features a bogie cable tram set and a Z3 class tram with a Met logo. c November 1985 Two copies held. Second copy has a black broken line on the left hand edge indicating possibly where staples were to be inserted. Negative (120) of a cable tram grip car and saloon car 565 outside the Nicholson St Winding house tram stop, with several passengers walking from the tram, the conductor attending to the "dolly" for the Gertrude Street cable so the gripmen can line it up with grip and the grip man looking down. In the image are adverts for Col. W. de Basil's Covent Garden show at Her Majesty's Theatre, Fosters Lager, Hoyts De Luxe Bourke St a Richard Greene film. Negative - cable tram set turning from Smith St into Gertrude St 22/3/1940, trailer 286. Wal Jack Negative number T147. Has destination of Spencer St. and an advert for The New Palais Royale at the Exhibition buildings. In the background is G. D. Langridge Real Estate building. On the street outside is a fire alarm point. Rod Atkins advised 6/9/2020: "I have been so impressed with the photo that is being used in Bellcord for the issue that did some digging. The photo is priceless! The photo is taken on a Friday (to my surprise) mid-afternoon given the shadows. Did you notice the flip side of the dummy destination - Clifton Hill. Hard working cable tram line to the end - licence to print money for the board. The building on the South east corner. - G.D. Langridge & Sons Auctioneer. This was a Melbourne "institution" . George David Langdon was a local identity who went on to become MLA for Collingwood. ot sure when the business started but could have been in the 1860s or 70's Well before the cable trams. George died on 24th March 1891. The business survived till well after the war."
