Deborah Gold Mines included the South Deborah, North Deborah and Deborah Extended. Deborah Gold Mines N.L. was wound up in 1950, when the shareholders, at an extraordinary meeting confirmed a proposal for voluntary liquidation. (Advertiser., Adelaide, 24 May, 1950) . George Kingsley, who wrote the reports, was the Mine Manager. He was born in Guildford in 1872, died in Bendigo in 1943. He spent his working life working in gold mines, mainly in Bendigo, in various roles, starting his work life as a blacksmith. Vincent Kelly (1877-1958) was a photographer in Mitchell Street, operating from 1904 until his death in 1958. As well as general photography he was renowned for war-time portraits of soldiers. A sketch of his photograph of underground miners was used on the reverse side of the 1913 1 pound note.Nameplate from Vincent Kelly Photographers, Bendigo. EDHS Newsletter No. 271 August 2023 Public Record Office Victoria (PROV) is the Archive of the State Government of Victoria. Established fifty years ago under the Public Records Act 1973, PROV at the Victorian Archives Centre in North Melbourne now holds around 106 kilometres of public records from 1836 to the present day. There are also PROV collections at Ballarat, Beechworth, Bendigo, Geelong and the University of Melbourne. Our next meeting will be about PROV and former PROV staff member Andrew Lemon, will briefly reminisce about his work there, in it’s early days. As Assistant Director Access Services at PROV, David Taylor oversees the management of, and access to, the State collection. David will be outlining PROV’s unique role in Victoria, the nature of the public records it holds and how researchers can use increasingly sophisticated online resources to discover more about their ancestors and Victorian history. The Spring Gully Gold Mining property consists of Gold Mining Lease No. 2986, Castlemaine, of about 21 acres situated on the Emu Reef, in Spring Gully Fryers. There are two shafts, distant about 300 feet from each other. From one of them large quantities of gold were obtained in former years by previous companies. Two page typed document detailing information of the North Johnson's Mine on the Garden Gully line of reef. The mine was located in California Gully, the shaft is approximately 66 yards north of Thomas Street. The shaft was 3,480 ft deep and sunk with the line of reef. This company, together with its northern neighbour the Rose of Denmark, first became a prominent gold producer in 1867.
