Photograph, Annual Demonstration 1961, 1961
Melbourne Legacy, Junior Legatees conducted Annual Demonstrations/Parades from 1928 through to the late 1970's, usually at the Melbourne Town Hall. These photos are at the Olympic Swimming Pool, which was used in 1959 to 1962. Throughout the year Melbourne Legacy provided classes for Junior Legatees such as dancing, gymnastics and eurythmics, the Demonstration was an annual event to showcase their skills. Melbourne Legacy conducted Annual Demonstrations / Parades from 1928 through to 1979. The beautiful costumes were made by members of the Junior Legacy Mothers' Club and the Melbourne Legacy Wives' Association.A record of a Junior Legacy Annual Demonstration. This is an invitation to the Orbost Football Club's Grand Final Dinner, held at the Mechanics' Institute Hall on Monday 12th October, 1953. The Orbost football club players were known as the Busters and wore green and gold guernseys. An Orbost football team has participated in the East Gippsland League since the early 20th century. In 2003 in response to a dwindling population, the Snowy Rovers and Orbost Football Clubs were driven to merge into the Orbost Snowy RoversFootball clubs, through their many changes, have always been an important social fabric of the community. Sport is often regarded as an important part of life in rural Australia, contributing to community identity, sense of place, social interaction and good health. The Northern District School of Nursing opened in 1950 in to address the issues around nurse recruitment, training and education that had previously been hospital based. The residential school was to provide theoretical and in-house education and practical training over three years. The students would also receive practical hands-on training in the wards of associated hospitals. The Northern District School of Nursing operated from Lister House, Rowan Street, Bendigo. The formation of the Bendigo District RSL Sub Branch was an amalgamation of the 3 RSL Sub Branches in Bendigo, Bendigo, Kangaroo Flat and Eaglehawk. In 1978 a "Servicemen's Club" was formed by the 3 Sub Branches as a Social venue which included lawn bowls. In year 2000 this venue became the Bendigo District RSL Sub Branch INC of the 3 Sub Branches. Kangaroo Flat retained their own Sub Branch HQ same as Eaglehawk, Bendigo’s HQ became the Sub Branch at the venue instead of the SMI at Pall Mall.Charter, timber framed with gold edging, the charter is various colours with the RSL badge central at the top with the flag either side with the word Charter in big letters under followed by the wording to establish a Sub Branch. Bill Botten was born in Carisbrook . He enlisted for service during World War One on 22 August 2016. He died in 1945. BOTTEN.— On October 21, at his residence, Simpson street, Carisbrook, William Alfred, dearly loved husband of Fanny, and loved father of Bernie, Peggy (Mrs. J. Meagher), Mollie (Mrs. N. Trembath), Jack, Flora (Mrs. W. Baker), Bill, and Bob, aged 69 years. (The Argus, 22 Oct 1945) Photograph of an Australian World War One Soldier, William Alfred (Bill) Botten.
