An early black and white photograph of the old ford in Marysville, Victoria.An early photograph of the bridge at the end of the main street in Marysville which is near the Buxton-Marysville Road and the Marysville-Wood's Point Road intersection. The Marysville-Buxton Road joins the Maroondah Highway which leads to Alexandra. The Marysville-Woods Point Road was originally part of the Yarra Track, constructed in the early 1860s to provide access between Healesville and the Woods Point Goldfields. Despite the steep terrain and engineering difficulties, the Yarra Track soon became a busy route used by pack horses, horse-drawn drays, and wagons. Today this sealed mountain road is a popular scenic drive between Marysville and Warburton. This photograph was published by the Valentine Publishing Co Pty. LTCOL Peter Eddy was the CO of the Army Svy Rgt from 1981 to 1982 and handed over to LTCOL Jorge Gruszka. LTCOL Gruszka’s appointment was from 1982 to 1985. This photographic magazine attaches to the gear box universal ( see cat 4531). As an assembly, the type F22 aerial camera came into RAF and RAAF service c1942. It was used by the RAF over Europe and by the RAAF extensively through the Sth. West Pacific area of operations, during WW2. This type of camera was used through the Vietnam war up to the early 1980's. The F22 camera assembly when mounted in the reliable Canberra aircraft, did aerial survey work in PNG, Indonesia, Malaysia and Sumatra and the Australian mainland. This type of camera was used in Spitfires, Mosquitos, Avro Lincolns and Canberra aircraft.This is a heavy metal container painted in a grey colour. The label is on the top. One side has two enlarged oval sections. in those two ovals is one hole of 22 mm diameter. In those holes is a disc painted half red and half white. Below the ovals are two levers connected to the internal mechanism. Bottom RHS has a disc with 2 pins, red dots are printed on it. Nearly level with the top of ovals is a kidney shaped hole. In that hole is a rotating disc with graduations and numbers. the action side of magazine has a rectangular opening size 83/4" x 7/16". Photograph - Royal Australian Survey Corps Field Survey Vehicles, c1950s
This is a set of five photographs of vehicles used by field survey parties. c1950s. The first two photos show unidentified surveyors and field survey vehicles departing the Army Survey Regiment’s transport compound. The third photo of LTCOL Lindsay Lockwood and CAPT Jim Stedman was taken at a field survey camp at Camooweal, QLD. LTCOL Lindsay Lockwood was the CO of the Army Survey Regiment from 1951 to 1962. As the longest serving commanding officer of the unit, there was many changes implemented. LTCOL Lindsay Lockwood’s period as CO is covered in more detail in pages 48-49 of Valerie Lovejoy’s book 'Mapmakers of Fortuna – A history of the Army Survey Regiment’ ISBN: 0-646-42120-4. CAPT Jim Stedman later reached the rank of Colonel, was Director of Military Survey from 1975 to 1978 and was appointed as Colonel Commandant (honorary appointment, Retd) of the Royal Australian Survey Corps from 1978 to 1983. The truck and semi-trailer loaded on a flatbed Photo .4P was probably towing RA Svy’s field deployable printing press, the MANN Double Crown. See pages 44 -45 of Valerie Lovejoy’s book for more information on how this trailer mounted printing press was used in a recruitment drive in 1948.This is a set of five photographs of vehicles used by field survey parties. c1950s – 1960s. Photograph - Komori Newkoni Printing Press operating at the Army Survey Regiment, c1980s
These five photographs of the Komori Newkoni Printing Press were probably taken circa 1980s in Lithographic Squadron at the Army Survey Regiment, Fortuna, Bendigo. The photos are not annotated except for .4P. The Komori Newkoni Printing Press was a four-colour offset press. It was one of the replacements for the George Mann Printing Presses, however improvements to productivity were not realised as it was unreliable, was very cramped between decks and there were safety concerns for the operators. This lithographic printing machine built by Komori Printing Machinery Co., Ltd in Japan. The press was in service at the Army Svy Regt from 1975 to the 1980s.This is a set of photographs of the Newkoni Komori Printing Press operational at the Army Survey Regiment, Bendigo c1980s. The photographs were printed on photographic paper and are part of the Army Survey Regiment’s Collection. These were bought at "A. Jolly's" store, Darwin on 4 Aug 1939 by Cpl Truscott. Advance party No.12 G.P. Squadron Darwin. They were bought for personal use. A note was attached to this item which mentions two of his friends killed in aircraft crashes. CPL Harold William Johnson 1727 RAAF and SGT Walter James Cox 2403 RAAF. This is a photograph of the Director Survey - COL Simon Lemon, CO Army Svy Regt - LTCOL Bob McHenry and probably OC Litho - MAJ Terry Lord inspecting the 1St topographic map printed on the new Heidelberg Speedmaster 102 Printing Press in c1992. *Estimated date based on the Director’s and CO’s period of appointment. The computer-controlled five colour lithographic offset printing press provided the Royal Australian Survey Corps vastly improved printing capability, as the five colours for a standard topographic map was printed in a single pass. The print room was named Wayzgoose Hall after a medieval printing house festival. Wayzgoose Hall and the Speedmaster printing capability was commissioned by the Commander of the 3rd Military District BRIG P. Davies AM, ADC on Wednesday 27th June 1990. This occasion is covered in more detail in page 145 of Valerie Lovejoy’s book 'Mapmakers of Fortuna – A history of the Army Survey Regiment’ ISBN: 0-646-42120-4. Colonel Simon Lemon was Director of the Royal Australian Survey Corps from January 1991 to June 1996.This is a photograph of three senior RASvy officers inspecting the first topographic map printed on the Heidelberg Speedmaster 102 Printing Press in Lithographic Squadron, Army Survey Regiment, Fortuna, Bendigo, c1992. The photograph is on 35mm black and white negative film and was scanned at 96 dpi. It is part of the Army Survey Regiment’s Collection. Eight-day clock from a Kittyhawk aircraft flown by Flight Lieutenant Ian A. Lyons. Part of the Flight Lieutenant Ian A. (Joe) Lyons MBE Collection. See catalogue No 5374P for his service record.Analogue eight-day aircraft clock with square mounting and round face. Numbers 3, 6, 9 and 12 and hands are white in colour with a black background. A winding knob is located on the bottom left-hand corner. There are two threaded holes on opposite corners for attachment to the control panel of an aircraft. The casing is made from bakelite.Stamped on a plate on the back of the clock: 'ORDER No. AC26186, MFR'S. PART No. 1776, SPEC.
