John Lundy-Clarke grew up in the Kalorama/Mt Dandenong area and later in life (1972-74) began to write a comprehensive history of the district working from an original settlement map in an effort to cover all areas. Edward Joseph Price took out Lot 1, Section 1 of the Village Settlement and became the first settler, moving his family up into a slab hut on his selection in 1896. Edward Joseph had two sons (Charles Joseph and Edward John) and a daughter (Kathleen Nathalie Caroline). Edward Joseph Price is holding his grandson Teddie, son of Edward John Price. Joseph was the first settler in the Village Settlement choosing LOT 1, part of which is still family property (1974). He worked for the surveyors who were marking out the blocks, and disregarded their advice as to which had the best soil, and so doing he obtained the best commercially. He died in 1943 leaving two sons & daughter. Edward John born 1899 died 1974. Charles born 1892 died 1958. Kathleen born 1895 died 1954. This manual was issued by Victorian Railways in 1967 to explain all of the railway signals used throughout Victoria. It included a detailed outline of the signals used at every railway station, including small depots and sidings throughout Victoria. Illustrations of the different signal systems are included in the text. Every driver, fireman, guard, shunter, and every other employee designated by the Head of the Branch concerned, had to be supplied by his superior officer with a copy of this book. They were required to become thoroughly acquainted with the particulars which related to their duties. The included informations was effective from 3rd August, 1967 until further notice.A beige coloured book with green binding. The cover includes the Royal Coat of Arms, a summary of the purpose and contents of the manual, and the date the instructions become effective, all printed in green ink. Embarked for Egypt 22.12.1914, embarked for Gallipoli 30.4.1915, transferred to 3rd FAB 6.9.1915. Hospitalised with Jaundice serious enough to be transferred to Malta then England, returned to unit 10.3.1916. Transferred to 12th FAB 26.3.1916 then to 4th Div AHQ 31.3.1916. Embarked for France 2.6.1916, discharged from the AIF 10.5.1919 medically unfit.Timber frame, mid brown with glass front, dark green mount. Discharge Certificate for ANTHONY NEWMAN printed in black & red colour on cream coloured paper, features the Royal coat of arms mounted on 2 columns all in red ink.
