A newsletter published by Legacy in this format for many years from 1942. They mentioned "Issued from time to time for Private Circulation among the Sons and Daughters of Deceased Service men and Merchant Seamen who served their Country during the War of 1914-18, or the present War" Many articles on the work of Legacy, including features on boys classes, girls classes, camps, the residences and where their past residents ended up. Sports Clubs in Kew in the final decades of the 19th century and in the early 20th century were often umbrella organisations with facilities for a number of sports. Typically in Kew, this included teams in lawn bowls, tennis and croquet. The Kew Bowling Club was formed in 1880 while the privately owned Auburn Heights Recreation Club was opened in 1904. By 1998, the two Clubs decided to amalgamate at the Auburn Heights site in Barkers Road, forming the Kew Heights Sports Club. The combined club was itself taken over by the Melbourne Cricket Club in 2012 becoming MCC Kew Sports Club. In 2017 MCC Kew closed and its landholding was subsequently sold to Carey Baptist Grammar School. Both the Kew and Auburn Heights Clubs assembled important collections. These historically significant and large collections were donated to the Society in 2020. This set of photos is from a leather bound album bearing the inscription "HUME RESERVOIR AUSTRALIA" plus 'The Rt. Hon. L. C. M. S. Amery, P. C., M .P.' all inscribed in gold. It was presented to The Rt. Hon. L. C. M. S. Amery, P. C., M. P, Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs on the occasion of his visit to the Hume Reservoir on 2nd November 1927. To ensure preservation of the album and its contents, the images and information pages have all been digitised. It is assumed that over the past 70 to 80 years there has been some loss of contrast due to fading, and probably detail. Thus, each photo was enhanced in several steps. Digitalisation of the album was completed by Eric Eulenstein in Wodonga in April 2002. The position of Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs was a British cabinet-level position created in 1925 and responsible for British relations with the Dominions — Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Newfoundland, and the Irish Free State — and the self-governing Crown colony of Southern Rhodesia.This album is of local and national significance as it documents the planning and development of the Hume Reservoir up to 1927. It was the largest water reservoir in the British Empire. The album records the pioneering engineering work that went into its construction. E.C. Grant. W.J. McMullin. W.K. Thomas (Presbyterian) the 3 photos copied from Jubilee History 1860 -1911 St Matthews Presbyterian (Church Stawell). The Jubilee History was printed and taken from The Times, Main St. Stawell. Mr. E.C. Grant was Treasurer for 29 years. A tablet placed on the wall above the vestry door to perpetuate the memory of Mr. E. C. Grant, one of the greatest benefactors the church ever had. The inscription reads: In memoriam/ erected by the congregation of St Matthew's/ in memory of / The Stirling worth of / Edmund Craigie Grant/ who died 4th July 1894/ aged 63 years. He was a sincere Christian/ A most Liberal & generous giver/ and a true lover of his kind. / Well done good, and faithful servant Matthew XXV. v23. Mr. W.J. McMullin was a secretary of the Sabbath School - later became superintendent a position he held for 26 years. Up to the time of his death - Faithfully discharged his duties. Mr. W.J. McMullin had the distinction of serving as an elder for 26 years from 1883 until the time of his death in 1909. Mr. W.K. The insulator factory and ovens were located on the SW corner of Velma Grove and Mount Dandenong Road approx. Quarrying for clay was done in the nearby area. Refer photographs of the factory.Two ceramic insulators made in East Ringwood from local clay. Colour grey. Conical with indentation in middle for wires. There is a second 'skirt' inside to enhance insulating performance. The inner hole is threaded.

General store and house built by C.R. Nicholl's in late 1925 at the same time J.N. Burgoyne built his store. Nicholl's sold the store and three allotments in York Street 1931. During the 1950s when the Moar family lived at No. 11 the grocery store was run by Cockcrofts. After Cockcrofts it was Davis and they turned it into a hardware store and timber yard at the side. Possibly a picnic for returned servicemen from Gallipoli. This photo was taken in front of the Police Paddocks with the police station on the left. Model T Fords parked with soldiers, drivers and locals resting on the police paddock in front of the Queenstown (St Andrews) station. The RACV Volunteer Motor Corps service during World War One was the reason the organisation was granted its Royal prefix. Automobile Club of Victoria members volunteered their time and vehicles to collect returning soldiers and nurses from ships at Princes Pier, Port Melbourne. Trips were also often arranged for convalescing soldiers to country areas for picnics and to “revive spirits”. The soldiers were also picked up from the Austin Hospital in Heidelberg and Mont Park Military Hospital in Macleod. Queenstown (St Andrews) was a common picnic spot. The Evelyn Observer reported on June 9. 1916 "Some 75 returned soldiers visited Queenstown on Sunday, 28th ult., and were hospitably entertained by local residents who had provided refreshments sufficient for 150. Mr. Milne in an appropriate speech welcomed the soldiers, and Mr. Robison suitably responded.” The photo was reproduced page 108 of “The Diamond Valley Story" by Diane H. Cornelius (Con) and his wife Elizabeth ran the store and post office from about 1904. Their son Donald became involved with the store in the 1930s. A petrol bowser was added in early 1933 and a second in 1937. The Wraights ran the store till the 1940s. The Reynolds/ Prior collection of photographs were taken by Tom Prior, the maternal uncle of Ivy Reynolds, around 1900 and the 60 photos in the album give a fine overview of many of the landmarks of Research and Eltham over 100 years ago. lvy lived in the family home for many years at 106 Thompson Cres Research. Ivy's father, Ernst Richard Reynolds and grandfather, Richard Reynolds, lived at the same address. Ivy's father Richard worked for Mr. Trail on his property in Research. Reynolds Road is named after the family. Mr Tom Prior (wife Eva) worked at the Melbourne zoo. He was very innovative and made his own camera, using the black cloth hood to exclude the light.
