Letter - LETTER OF APPOINTMENT, Department of Civil Aviation and D.G. Anderson for the Director of Airways, 18th April, 1949
Letter advised F.G. Davey of an appointment with the Department of Civil Aviation. Davey initially wanted to be a commercial pilot after returning from WW2. He qualified to do so but eventually chose to return to his pre-war job as a clerk at Hume and Iser, Bendigo. Part of F.G. Davey collection. A souvenir scarf from Egypt in 1916. Similar items see 00183, 00179. It was embroidered with military symbols. The connection with Legacy is not known. The founders of Legacy were all returned servicemen who returned from overseas service in World War One so would be familiar with similar sentimental souvenirs that were purchased in Egypt and sent home to loved ones.A record of the type of souvenir made or bought from Egypt in 1916. Demonstrates the Museum's ticketing systems and ongoing production of tickets.Block of 100 tickets - dark blue ink on off white paper, with ticket number in black ink denomination 80c, headed Ballarat Vintage Tramway. On rear in blue ink are details of the BTPS. The 100 tickets have been stapled onto a heavy brown cardboard back with a heavy metal staple and a small brown cardboard retaining strip at the top of the ticket. 2257.1 - A000001 to A000100 (The first block collected at the time of issue 1/11/1985) 2257.2 - A027001 to A027100 - collected 28/12/2002. 2257.3 - A049901 to A50000 (last block) - collected 30/6/2004 and added. The tickets are in the style of the former State Electricity Commission of Victoria tramway tickets. Yields information about the use, style and printing of weekly tickets used in Ballarat tramways and how they were presented during the late 1940's prior to abolition.Used SECV 2/6 weekly ticket, ticket numbers B 144630. Originally printed and stapled into blocks of 20 tickets. The ticket is printed on a manila 210gsm card and printed using red ink to give day numbers, monthly, week number, transfers, and day of the week, excluding Sunday. Numbered on the right end of the ticket. Static number (1 - 7) on left indicates maybe the day of the issue. The ticket has been nipped in the day spaces 10 times and has been nipped for the month of August and week 3. On the rear of the ticket is the details of the ticket use, allowing the passenger one return journey between City and section 3 or 4. Not available on Sundays. The Returned and Services League of Australia (often abbreviated to RSL) is a support organisation for men and women who have served or are serving in the Australian Defence Force (ADF). It was formed as the Returned Sailors and Soldiers Imperial League of Australia in 1916, became the Returned Sailors', Soldiers' and Airmens Imperial League of Australia in 1940, and became the Returned Services League of Australia in 1965. The change to its current name was made in 1990 to reflect the organisation's concern for current as well as former servicemen and servicewomen. The patron of the RSL is Queen Elizabeth II. The current National President of the League is Rear Admiral Ken Doolan, AO RAN (rtd).[2] As of 31 December 2009, the League comprised 186,652 members from 1,306 sub-branches and 5,533 members of the League's women's auxiliary from 381 sub-branches.
