Extract from the Bendigo Advertiser 27th November 1856 mentioning a ring which was presented to Mr Lysaght, a barrister for his work for the Chinese residents of Long Gully encampment. The ring was manufactured for the occasion and had an inscription in raised Chinese characters. Decorative object - GLASS BALL (GOLD COLOURED) BENDIGO GLASS WORKS 1920 CASSIDY, KOONDROOK, EDNA PEACOCK, 1920
Bowl previously owned by donor's mother and father Mr and Mrs Cassidy of Koondrook. Mr and Mrs Cassidy (aged 25 and 22 respectively) were honeymooning in Bendigo on 18th March 1920 and obtained the bowl from the Bendigo Glassworks. This was passed on to their daughter Edna Peacock. Associated with the bowl is an article written by Jim Evans for the Bendigo Advertiser December 13th 2012 in his 'History Lives' column. The article illustrates the connection between Jannaya McKenzie (work experience student) and the bowl that was obtained by her ancestors. Green glass Ball made by Bendigo Glassworks 1920. Letter written on white paper to the Chief Ranger, Court King of the Forest from Matthew Burke and dated January 31/1872. Matthew had been accused of being illegally on the Court funds. He wrote the letter saying he was being treated by the doctor. The doctor told him to go on the funds as he was not fit for work. He also says he has never been bad on the books yet. Document - PADDY'S GULLY LINE - NOTES ON PADDY'S GULLY LINE
Handwritten notes on Paddy's Gully Line. Two long Xcuts put in at 642 ft & 1206 ft. (Sea mine). In the Sea ground and the immediate vicinity there were many claims at work on the line in the early 1860's and also from 1870 to 1872. For one of them, owned by the Poaddy's Gully Co $40,000 was refused. Gold-bearing quartz was reached in this mine at 396 feet, but the water was too strong to allow of work being gone on with.
