First Annual Report of the Footscray Tramway Trust, for the year ending 30/9/1917. Lists the Trust Members, Consulting Engineers, and Secretary. Details the Trust's activities, financial loans, construction, car barn, and that it is the first Australian Tramway to use Australian-made rails. Engineering report by McCarty Underwood lists the lines to be built, and rails to use an 80lb/yard NSW railway section with a 30lb/yard bolt-on check rail. Notes the intention to have 7 one-man-operated cars and 3 combination cars. Gives expected cost of operations. Lists the Footscray Council Officers that were involved in the project. Details the Trust's activities, finances, and a short review of activities noting the supply of energy from the Victorian Railways Newport Power Station. Engineering report by Christie & Gardiner detailing the construction, welding of joints, tar surfacing, substation equipment, fitting equipment to the seven ex HTT tramcars at Footscray, delivery of equipment for the tramcars, but a delay in the delivery of the trolley wire. There are four pages of accounts and one page for the Auditor's statement. Research Essay, possibly the final draft, by Leigh J Harding looking at the engine houses that powered the Melbourne cable tram system from an Engineering and Architectural viewpoint. Has pencil notations to where photographs would be placed. Provides details on the background to their construction by the Melbourne Tramways Trust in the 1880s. Includes notes on the land acquisition, site plan, internal layout plan and notes on the operations and disposal. Notes on the Essendon, Bendigo and Ballarat power stations are included. Typed report by Mr Alex Cameron of the PMTT titled "Chairman giving a comparison between Original and Revised estimate of Noyes Bros in regard to proposed tramways" Orginal Estimate dated May 1906, revised June 1907. One of the principal savings was the purchase of power from the Electric Traction and Lighting Co instead of building their own Power Station. The photograph shows St Paul's Cathedral on the corner of Flinders and Swanston St Melbourne, before the construction of the spires during the 1930s. Several cable trams, including cable car 146 can be seen in Swanston St, along with many motor cars, buses and pedestrians. The photo is early 1920s. In the background is the Shrine of Remembrance. To the west of St. Kilda Road running in parallel from City Road to Mafra Street is Sloss Street, it was removed in the late 1960' for the construction of the National Arts Center. The former "Green Mill" dance hall built in 1926 become the "Forty Club" in 1933 and evolved to being the "Trocadero Palais" by the late 1930's can be seen on the right of the photo. The road on the south side of the Yarra River, at the bottom of the photo, is Riverside Avenue. Certificate of Appreciation from the Mutual Benefit Society of the Employees of MTOCo to Mr T Edwin Wildie for services rendered to the Society. Dated Feb. 1914. Was signed by the President, Vice President, and secretary but these have faded. Comprises a group photograph of 28 men and at the bottom a portrait photo of Mr Wildie. Includes images of a cable tram set at Brunswick Depot, a horse-drawn Omnibus, the interior of an engine house and the construction of a cable tramway junction. Colour slide of VR class tram 53, route 30, westbound in La Trobe St on the bypass built to enable the construction of the Melbourne Central or Museum station between Dec 1973 and 1978 - see reference. The concrete looks relatively new in the photograph. The tram was originally built by the Victorian Railways for their St Kilda Brighton tramway in 1942. It is currently on display at the Melbourne Tram Museum. Many of the buildings in the background have since been demolished.
