Has a strong association with the motorman involved in the opening of the Ballarat Electric Tram system and the person..1 - Black and White photograph of ESCo Ballarat No. 1in Ballarat, soon after opening in 1905, destination sign placed over front dash canopy. Has the driver (Rupert Bowd) at the controls. Has the destination of "Lydiard St Nth". (Rupert should be Robert - see page 138 of Alan Bradley's book, The Golden City and its Tramways) - at the Gregory St terminus. See Reg Item 4383 for another copy of this photograph. .2 - Letter from Mrs. I Gleeson? to Robert Green dated 1-12-1988, regarding the driver (says he was Rupert), worked for a while on loan to PMTT, the tram (No. 2) he drove on the first day and No. 1 as first car on the Lydiard St line. Also gives details of his life and family. .3 - Letter from ditto - dated 28-2-1989 - regarding the print and that she had visited the BTPS depot two weeks ago and spoke to Richard Gilbert. .4 - Envelope - pre stamped, featuring Clarendon house Evandale Tasmania. Yields information about staff and the SEC benevolent system for its workers.Magazine - 32 pages printed on gloss paper with colour cover - titled 'SEC Magazine June 1936 Vol 1 - June 1936". Has a forward by the Chairman of the SEC, Mr. Francis Clements as the first magazine. Published 1 June 1936. Provides news about the SEC itself, personal Notes and Anecdotes on many people including clubs and societies. Includes notes on the late Mr. W. Knox, the ESCO Chief Accountant in Ballarat, the Electricity Supply and Tramways Employees Social club, Bendigo, Geelong, sporting clubs and fund raising for the Children's Hospital. Provides information about the last tickets issued on the Mt Pleasant route at the time of closure and sample tickets.Set of 8 tickets and handwritten notes regarding the last tickets issued on 5/9/1971 when the Mt Pleasant - Gardens via Sturt St west route closed. .1 - hand written noted on a ruled sheet of paper from a note book - listing the last tickets for 4c, 5, 7c and 13c on the route for both the last tram to and from the city. .2 - Set of 4 No. 18c - brown print on off white paper, ticket nos. Functional object - Fare Token/s, Electric Supply Co. of Vic (ESCo), 1913
Demonstrates aspects of the Ballarat Tramways fare system at the time of the one man trams, tokens which could be pre purchased by travellers and save time when boarding trams. See notes on file re these eg Reg Item 1801. Fare tokens - 2d - 21mm diameter - green celluloid - with "B.E.T." in large capitals on front centre of token and words "Ballarat Electric Tramways 1913" on circumference. On reverse in large font "2" and a small font "D" at top of the right - indicating token had a value of two pence. For details of use see Reg. Item 1794 and Reg. item 1801.1, 1802. Demonstrates the use of a glass paperweight fitted with a reproduction of a Ballarat ESCo tram towing a horse tram along Sturt St.Glass curved paperweight with indented base and a photo printed on a brown outside card of an ESCo horse tram towing a heavily loaded train east bound in Sturt St Ballarat with the Town Hall in the background.
