Newspaper clipping from the letters to the Editor Section of The Courier, Ballarat, dated about 19/8/1971. The first letter, signed by "All Het Up" pleading for the trams to be retained on a limited route serving Sovereign Hill and the Gardens and noting the tourist potential of such a tram line. A Second letter supports the retention of the trams by the BTPS in Wendouree Parade. Letter is unsigned - may not have been cut out properly. Notes the preservation of a street tramway in Montevideo. Gives details of services from the City on weekdays, from 6.45am to 9.15pm and to the City from 6.58am to 9.28pm on either side of the sheet. Shows for inbound services, which route number it is through routed to. Demonstrates aspects of the way the SEC issued rules to employees on how they should behave and perform their duties safely. Yields information on particular items and operations. Also yields information on a route number system, not generally used for the public.Booklet with green cloth covers, titled in gold block "State Electricity Commission of Victoria - Tramways - Rules Governing Employees - May 1936"on heavy card with inside paper covers on heavy paper and 24 pages printed both sides, with stitched pages with white cotton. Gives details with an index of the rules for Motorman, Conductors and both types of employees together. Has an "Issued to" form inside the front cover - no entries. Photograph - Black and White - Tram Y1 610, Early 1930s
Photo shows the first build of the upgraded Y class design classified Y1 Class 610. Four of these Trams were built in the MMTB Preston Workshops in 1930, 610 to 613. There was one solitary Y Class tram 469. They were built with the intention of evaluating one-man operation. Due to their higher cost and Union resentment, the MMTB resorted to the proven W Class tram design. All Y and Y1 classes were withdrawn from regular passenger service in 1965 and transferred to the Driver training school at Hawthorn Depot. All cars are preserved in various museums in Australia. Date of Tour 31/10/1965. 1422.1 - X2 at the terminus of route 69/79 routes at the Esplanade, St Kilda. Note the track is alongside the north side kerb. Set of two Black and white photographs of the pile driving for the reconstruction of the Maribyrnong River Bridge from a tramway only bridge to a dual road/tram bridge. The road bridge is in the background. On Kodak paper. Photo during the 2nd half of 1965. 1419.1 - Early in the process of pile driving - Bridge tram track has been reduced to single track and the former outbound line is in use for construction purposes. 1419.2 - Roadway west of bridge looking east. Shows temporary single track arrangement which allowed the operating track to switch to the south side when piling completed. W5 682 West Maribyrnong on route 57 coming off the bridge. Black and white photograph of W6 994 in Smith St. Collingwood/Fitzroy, in bound on route 90 to City - Spencer St., picking up passengers at a tram stop. Pole obscuring front of tram. Tram has destination "City Spencer St" and run number "P44" Tram appears to be fairly crowded already. Photo taken c1956 with a number of motor cars in the street including some Holdens. In the background are a number of shop fronts, with signs for "Singer Sewing Machines", "Freddo frogs", "Peters Ice Cream", Davies Hardware, John Cornish. On the side of the photograph is the first part of a Woolworths store front. The address of the John Cornish, Mercer, was 205 Smith St. Fitzroy and Woolworths were at 182 -184 Smith St. Collingwood. Significant in being a form used by the SEC inspectors on the tramcars as part of their duties to monitor the performance of the trams and their crews. Could be used for recording results of ticket inspections as well.Printed form titled "Daily Report of Cars Inspected", head "State Electricity Commission of Victoria". Has space for Inspectors name, time on , time off, date, traffic, weather and Inspector's Signature. Form has table with 9 columns, up to 26 trams to be inspected, recording route, motorman or conductors name, car number, time, inspected between, number of passengers, passes and remarks. The bogie tram (37) has destination of "Special", 19 - "Chilwell". Has the Geelong SEC depot/powerhouse building in the background with part of the Blakistons' sign visible.
