Gold coloured silk tablecloth with green braid edging and mauve silk fringing. It is heavily embroidered with various flags, crowns and flowers relating to the Gallipoli campaign. Possibly made in Eygpt. The flags featured are Australia, France, United Kingdom, Egypt, Japan, Italy, Belgium and Russia. Some fraying along folds. The RAN Bridging Train (RANBT) was a naval reserves unit trained to provided engineering support such as assembling pontoons, temporary jetties and unloading stores. A family with six children, the youngest, Charlie, being six years old. Their grandfather is estranged from the family and Charlie wishes to visit him. The grandfather, Mr Maxwell invites Charlie to live with him so the child goes as the family ambassador. It has religious and strong family themes.This green cloth hardcover book has a colourful paper dustjacket depicting a mother with a small boy wearing a sailor suit sitting on her knee. Portraits on the wall, an oriental screen near a small table with knick knacks and a vase of flowers completes the scene. The title is printed at the top in red lettering with the author's name underneath. The spine is coloured in pink and blue lettering with the spine, a picture of a boy and the publisher Shaw at the bottom. On the back of the dustjacket is a list - Uniform with this Volume of 16 titles to read, with another book by M. Seymour, That Boy Tom. Inside on the right endpaper is an Award Bookplate.The frontispiece coloured illustration is the same as the one on the dustjacket. Image of Lt Colonel Herbert James SHANNON DSO,VD - Commanding Officer of the 8th Light Horse AIF. Returned to Australia 3/7/1919 and died 27/12/1960. Colonel Shannon became the 1st President of the Wangaratta RSL when it was organised under Anzac House and the present constitution. He was born at Bowman's Forest in 1874 and died in Wangaratta in 1960. He served in the Victorian Mounted Rifles at the turn of the century, rose to the rank of Captain and commanded the Wangaratta Detachment and Company - this later became the 8th Light Horse Regiment. In 1915 he embarked as Major in the 8th Light Horse and served in Gallipoli, Sinai, Palestine and Syria whee he commanded the 8th Squadron. Later he was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel and commanded the Regiment. During the Amman raids, he won the D.S.O at El Salt. This award was presented to him by the Duke of Clarence. In post war period he commanded the 8th Australian Light Horse and later as Colonel of the 3rd Cavalry Brigade During the second world war Colonel Shannon came from retirement to organise the V.D.C in North East Victoria. This outfit was worn by Kate Dabb for her wedding to Alf Meyer on the 6th of June 1900 at the Maldon Wesleyan Church. Kate was the 3rd daughter of Samuel Dabb.This dress is in two parts, a bodice and a skirt. Made of cream satin, mostly machine sewn with some hand sewing. The bodice is finely worked with applique panels of scrolls, petals and leaves decorated with glass beads and sequins. World War One Certificate (Coulstock), WW1 Certificate of Service, 1914
This item is a World War One certificate featuring Walter Coulstock. Private Walter George Coulstock, an engineer, was born in Warrnambool and educated at the Warrnambool Academy. He enlisted at the age of 21 in August 1914, embarked in October 1914 and while travelling to Egypt he entered the machine gun section. He was wounded on the afternoon of the Landing and died of wounds in May 1915. He was buried at sea while in transit to Alexandria. Walter Coulstock was one of the many men and women from Warrnambool and district who enlisted in World War One and who died on active service.This certificate is of considerable significance as it is memento of Walter Coulstock who died in World War One. The Coulstock family was a prominent one in the Warrnambool district in the 19th and early 20th centuries and Walter is one of the local heroes of the Great WarThis is a paper certificate mounted on a frame of plywood. The mount indicates that the certificate has previously been framed. The certificate has a grey background and contains images of the British and Australian flags in red, white and blue, six black and white photographs, an image of H.M.A.S. Australia, an image of a battle scene with artillerymen and black and red lettering. Pasted on to the centre part of the certificate is a yellow piece of paper with a photograph and information on Walter Coulstock. Instrument - Lockwood's Brass Protractor 360 degrees, 1886
Brass protractor 360 degrees used by William Henry Lockwood. William Lockwood was born in 1832 in Glossop, Derbyshire and came to Victoria in 1853 on the 'Marco Polo'. He settled in Whittlesea with his wife Naomi in 1856. He was contracted to the Whittlesea Road Board and was the Engineer to the Shire for a period of 40 years. Some instruments have markings 'JL' on them which is presumed to be Joseph Lockwood, William Henry Lockwood's father.
