The 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles was raised as a regiment of the Royal Australian Armoured Corps on 1 May 1948 with Headquarters in Melbourne and squadrons in Sale, Benalla/Wangaratta and Albury. In 1955 Regimental Headquarters moved to Wangaratta and a second squadron was located at Albury. The Sale squadron transferred to 4th/19th Prince of Wales’s Light Horse. In 1977 8/13 VMR Regiment was reduced to an independent squadron A Squadron 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles and in 1991 was linked with 4th/19th Prince of Wales’s Light Horse forming the VMR Squadron of that regiment.One of a collection of photographic portraits of Commanding Officers and Officers Commanding of the regiment/independent squadron from its inception in 1947 to its linking with 4th/19th Prince of Wales’s Light Horse in 1991. Document regarding the abandonment of tramways in Ballarat and Bendigo. Presented to State Parliament Sept. 1970 by the MInister for Fuel and Power, the Hon J C M Balfour MLA. Outlines the losses incurred by the SEC, replacement public transport system, the worn out nature of the system, the gifting of one Bendigo tramcar to the AETM, costs of track repairs and new trramcars, tenders for replacement bus services, retrenchment payments to staff, reconstruction of existing roads following removal of the tracks, and town planning and traffic aspects. Includes a photo of a bus and interior seating. Stanton Bowman was a Ballarat artist who painted many large portraits of the city's dignitaries and mayors. Bishop Michael O'Connor was the first Catholic Bishop of Ballarat and this portrait was painted from a photographic studio image after the bishop's death.Signed and dated T. Stanton Bowman 1906.

The photograph is of the 1925 Warrnambool Rowing Club Lightweight four- they raced at the clubs annual Boxing Day Regatta. H Sherriff was stroke J MacNamara (3 seat) C Earls (2 seat) L Halliwell (bow), T Fary was cox. The Regatta that year had three events and the other usual aquatic events were cancelled due to poor weather. Mr W. A. Hope was regatta secretary. It is recorded on page 109 of the 1914-35 minute book that 'Mr. Meckin, the president, said he had much pleasure in moving a motion of long salutation to the light weight four in recognition of the fine performance they put in at the Yarra Yarra and Albert Park Regattas...Mr. Hope seconded and added...credit to the crew..a fine lesson to some of the older members in perseverance..'Black and white photograph of a Warrnambool Rowing Club crew of 5 in a rowing boat on the Hopkins River, Warrnambool.
