The 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles was raised as a regiment of the Royal Australian Armoured Corps on 1 May 1948 with Headquarters in Melbourne and squadrons in Sale, Benalla/Wangaratta and Albury. In 1955 Regimental Headquarters moved to Wangaratta and a second squadron was located at Albury. The Sale squadron transferred to 4th/19th Prince of Wales’s Light Horse. In 1977 8/13 VMR Regiment was reduced to an independent squadron A Squadron 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles and in 1991 was linked with 4th/19th Prince of Wales’s Light Horse forming the VMR Squadron of that regiment. Gilda GUDE (1918 - 1996) Born Ballarat Died Melbourne Gilda Gude worked in various media throughout her career, favouring figure and flower studies. She attended the Ballarat Technical Art School in the early 1930s. This artwork was completed for a competition run by a large art supply company. In 1952 Gude won the Royal Art Society Drawing Prize. She started lecturing at RMIT in 1961. This item is part of the Federation University Art Collection. Caroline Faram was married to Arthur Faram and they had 8 children. Three of the boys established the Faram Bros ironmongery (hardware) store in Bay St Port Melbourne which continued until 2007. Caroline died in 1918. (G) General Instructions - items 83 to 98. See condition notes - not in the best condition - needs careful handling. 3486.4 - ditto - similar to above, but 34 pages through to instruction 104. Added section (F) after (E) - "Automatic Braking - clauses 72 - 79, possibly an earlier version of above when trams were fitted with dead man controls. Held within a cardboard folder with a metal binder. Cover has been covered with brown paper and adhesive tape, but only remains on the inside of the cover. Item added 3/10/2007.
