The Terminus Hotel was one of the earliest hotels in Wodonga, with clear links to the establishment of the railway line. It was an important business and meeting place from the original construction in 1873 until 1st June 1998 the Terminus Hotel when it was destroyed by fire. It provided a popular venue for social activities, including competitive darts, both through its own competition and as part of the Albury-Wodonga District Darts Association. The remains of the building were demolished in 1999. This is a perpetual trophy for the Terminus Dart Club Doubles Championship from 1985 to 1992.The Terminus Hotel was an important meeting place in Wodonga for more than 100 years. Sports Clubs in Kew in the final decades of the 19th century and in the early 20th century were often umbrella organisations with facilities for a number of sports. Typically in Kew, this included teams in lawn bowls, tennis and croquet. The Kew Bowling Club was formed in 1880 while the privately owned Auburn Heights Recreation Club was opened in 1904. By 1998, the two Clubs decided to amalgamate at the Auburn Heights site in Barkers Road, forming the Kew Heights Sports Club. The combined club was itself taken over by the Melbourne Cricket Club in 2012 becoming MCC Kew Sports Club. In 2017 MCC Kew closed and its landholding was subsequently sold to Carey Baptist Grammar School. Both the Kew and Auburn Heights Clubs assembled important collections. These historically significant and large collections were donated to the Society in 2020. At this parade, the recently linked linked regiment, 4/19 Prince of Wales's Light Horse, exercised its Freedom of the City of Fitzroy. The regiment was the first occasion that the new regiment paraded after the linking of two 1948 regiments 4/19 PWLH and 8/13 VMR. Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Peter Fernleigh RFD is leading the parade. Captain Lyle Jackel third from left. Official Party outside City of Fitzroy Town Hall includes Mayor Angela Ireland in mayoral robes numbered 5, Honorary Colonel John Neale RFD ED is at her left, number 3. Since 1948, the regiment had its depot in George Street Fitzroy. Eight Legacy widows enjoying themselves at a widow function. It was the 'Great Tea Party' in June 1992 when the widows rooms were opened after 9 months of renovations. Keesing Photographers took a series of photos on the same day of various ladies (Ref no 929609). Some of the same ladies are in 00655 and 00656. Their names are unknown. Pg 3 could mean the photo was used in an issue of The Answer. This was probably for a light buggy. Heavy farm, and lumber wagons had wider tires. It would have been made by a blacksmith. The blacksmith fitted steel rims onto wooden wagon wheels. The red hot metal rim expands when hot, so it can be fitted to the wagon wheel. Then it contracts to create a tight fit as it cools after being dropped into a tank of water.Horse-drawn wagons are an important part of Orbost’s agricultural history. After enforced retirement due to injury he was active in Civil Defence.The Defence Medal is a campaign medal instituted by the United Kingdom in May 1945, to be awarded to citizens of the British Commonwealth for both non-operational military and certain types of civilian war service during the Second World War. It was Awarded for 3 years, 360, 180 or 90 days, depending on area and nature of serviceThe medal is cupro-nickel, with the uncrowned effigy of King George VI on the obverse. The reverse has a conventional oak tree centrally, with a crown above, with two lions counter rampart as supporters between the dates 1939 and 1945. The base of the medal reverse has the words ‘THE DEFENCE MEDAL’. The ribbon is orange with green outer stripes, each green stripe having a black pin-stripe running down the centre. The green represents the Islands of the United Kingdom, the orange represents enemy attacks, and the black represents the black outs. The medal is housed in a small cardboard box.
