Frederick J.C. Martell was born in 1912 in Geelong. He was Principal of between in 1895 and 1912, and registrar of the School from 1895 to 1914. He was an avid amateur photographer, and was involved with pioneering X-Ray demonstrations at the Ballarat School of Mines. The first section of Studley House was built in the 1850s for Melbourne and Kew pioneer, John Hodgson. Later owners included John Wren. The building is now part of Xavier Preparatory School. James Venn Morgan was known affectionately as ‘The Father of Kew’. Born in Somersetshire on February 21, 1823, he sailed to Australia in April, 1851.
