Salvation Army Barracks Main Street Stawell. Weatherboard building part roof corrugated iron - remainder wooden shingles. Picket fence in foreground. Large group of people standing and seated on the footpath. The original Salvation Army Barracks is now at the rear of the present Citadel a red brick building. Stawell Corps was opened in the year 1884 in the month of May. The first meeting was conducted in a Church but afterwards the old market (area present Library) was secured for meetings. Captain Furbur and Lieutenant Quick were the first officers appointed. Photograph of a weatherboard building with a group of people standing and sitting in front of a picket fence. Pomonal Methodist Church with group of people standing out the front of the building. Photograph taken on the day the church was opened in 1935. Financial aid from the Methodes Church enabled a building to be erected using voluntary labour. The first service was held by the Methodes' on Sunday Dec. 1st. 1935. Conducted by Rev. N. G. Graham of Stawell and the evening service by Rev. G. Fisher of Ararat. Salvation Army Group, four standing two seated in front of a paling fence. Adjutant John Perry seated next to this wife Mrs. Perry was the leader of the Stawell Salvation Army at this time in 1911. The post card was donated to the society by Mrs. Ruth Pickering from Dadswell's Bridge and the daughter of John Perry.
