This medical equipment was used in the Tawonga District General Hospital which was built in the 1950s specifically for the increase in population due to the Kiewa Hydro Scheme. This would have been part of a doctor's bag carried on home visits. it was safe and easy to transport and included a range of needles and attachments.Historical: Shows the development of scientific medical equipment. Provenance: Used in the Tawonga District General Hospital which was remote and therefore required good equipment.Stainless steel rectangular case with lid. Metal box was also for sterilising with its lid open (not plunger or stilettos) Put together with gloves on. Inside: Glass syringe white frosted cylinder with tinted blue glass plunger. Case has clips at base to hold the syringe steady. Also: x1 needle also held in place and x3 needles in protective hollow cylinder loose. Also: x1 bent looking attachment held in place. In the early nineteenth century larger Australian wool producers sent all their wool by sailing ship to London, where colonial auctions were held in November, January, February and March. Wool bales were carried from the farm on drays or wagons pulled by bullocks, horses or camels to port warehouses. In these times, wool transport could take anything from a week to six months. Ships, such as the Lightning, were then loaded and raced each other to get to London ahead of their rivals. The wooden ship 'Lightning' was destroyed by fire while loading wool at Geelong 31 Oct. 1869. Scuttled in Corio Bay and the remains later blown up. Reputed to be one of the fastest sailing ships. In 1906 Patrick Mylon started a passenger transport service in the Albury-Wodonga border area with horses and cabs. His son Jack went into business in the late 1920s, and his grandson Bernie joined the firm early in 1970. When Patrick started with the horses and cabs, each cab carried eight passengers and he always had two horses per cab. As the business expanded, Mylons used a range of buses and coaches including Reo, Chev and Bedford vehicles. During more than 100 years of service to the Wodonga region and beyond, Mylon Motorways received many awards for Excellence and tourism. On July 2, 2008 the company, including its 31 buses and 45 staff members were transferred to the Dyson Group. Mylon were formed in 1906 providing transport service between Wodonga and Albury via horse-drawn cabs. This expanded to a modern fleet of more than 31 buses offering a range of regular bus routes and tours throughout the area and beyond. They were recognised for outstanding service and awards of excellence in the transport industry and tourism.Badges produced to celebrate 100 years of Mylon's operation in Wodonga.
