Reginald Stoneham was born in 1879 and died March 1942. He was a popular accompanist and recording artist in the early part of the 20th century. Among his works were All for Australia, Back to Warrnambool, The drover, Bendigo for the weekly Times, Mildura and Home to Ballaraat.He also penned music under the name Alberto Algrati which were his middle names.A piece of music written specifically for Warrnambool by a popular artist of the time.Taken from the Weekly Times: Words and music to the Waltz of Warrnambool printed on one side and Our women’s Section printed on the reverse.Song composed by Reginald Stoneham. Alex Wright travelled to England in 1930 and was known as the Prince of Mimic. His stage name was Navarre. He died in an air-raid in the Hippodrome Birmingham in 1940. He was the brother of Frank Wright who was a renown resident of Smeaton, where he was born. He lived at Laura Villa, and attended Smeaton State School. His father William was a gold miner and his mother's name was Sarah. Their family won many singing and instrumental awards. Frank was tutored by Percy Code and became the Australian Open Cornet Champion by the age of eighteen. A year later, Frank conducted the City of Ballarat Band, and later the Ballarat Soldiers’ Memorial Band. He formed the Frank Wright Frisco Band and Frank Wright and his Coliseum Orchestra. These bands won many South Street awards, and Frank as conductor won many awards in the Australian Band Championship contest. In 1933 Frank Wright sailed to England to conduct the famous St Hilda’s Band and was later appointed Musical Director of the London County Council, where he organized many amazing concerts in parks, in and around the London district. He was made Professor of Brass and Military Band Scoring and conducted at the Guildhall of Music and Drama. Frank was often invited to adjudicate Brass Band Championships around Europe, in Australia, including South Street and in New Zealand. An article from The Age about the death of Sir Alfred (Kem) Kemsley in 1987. It mentions that is was a loss of one of Melbourne's 'great characters'. Between the wars he served as secretary to the Melbourne Metropolitan Town Planning Commission and as secretary to the Liquor Trades Defence Union. In 1934 he became general manager of 3UZ. In world war 2 he was appointed director of the organsation of The Australian Army with the rank of Colonel. After the war he was one of those who founded the advertising agency United Service Publicity (later USP-Needham). He served as chairman and long remained director. Sir Kemsley was one of the earliest supporters of the Shrine and was instrumental in its construction. He was a shrine trustee and governor of the Corps of Commissionaires. An early and long serving member of Legacy. His many honours included KBE (1980), CMG (1973), CBE (1960), and ED. He was survived by a wife, son Liston, and daughter Jean by a previous marriage. The article was part of an album of past presidents from 1965 to 1989. The folder included biographical details and obituaries, eulogies and death notices of prominent Legatees. The items have been catalogued separately.A record that the death of Legatee Kem Kemsley a past president of Legacy, was reported in the press. After a quiet period, interest in bookplates in Australia began to increase in the early 1970s, Entrepreneurial art and book collectors such as Edwin Jewell and others commissioned multiple Bookplate designs from a range of well known fine artists. At a 1997 meeting in Melbourne of the Ephemera Society of Australia Edwin Jewell and others announced the formation of the Australian Bookplate Society. The society was instrumental in promoting the art of the bookplate through establishment of the Australian Bookplate Design competition. The competition includes a design award for international entrants.Printed in blue with top printing of Ex Libris with seagulls flying in the spacing and image of seagulls with background of ocean and title, THE ANIMALS OF THE BALTIC SEA.Pencilled beneath image, 10/25 - "Uuelli nel MareBoltico" - signature. -

Allan writes of the sinking of the SS Flying Enterprise. Having been damaged in a storm it was towed about 300 miles with only the captain Kurt Carlsen and the Mate from the salvage tug on board. The Fred Rochow Railways Collection incorporates photos related to the operation of the Wodonga Railway Station including different types of trains and railways staff C. 1930 – 1990. It was donated to the Wodonga Historical Society by Fred Rochow, a railwayman who spent many years based in Wodonga. He joined the Victorian Railways on 17th June l947 and retired in 1988. For some time, he was a member of the Australian Federated Union of Locomotive Enginemen and served a term as a member of the Trades Hall Council. He had an extensive knowledge of the struggles that took place to achieve better conditions for railway workers. Fred worked for many years as a fireman and then worked his way up the ranks to driver, experiencing many changes from the days of steam locomotives through to diesel trains, locomotives and even the modern XPT train. He worked throughout Victoria at different stages of his career, with his final working years focused on the northeast of Victoria and the Albury to Melbourne line. After his retirement, Fred continued to share his love of steam miniature trains with the community.This collection has local and statewide significance as it captures images of trains, locomotives and personnel who operated the railway services in Wodonga and throughout Northeast Victoria. The railways played a critical role in opening up Victoria and connecting Australia for trade, business, social communication and transport.Jack Dwyer was born on 25 September 1896. He started his railway career at North Melbourne on 8 February 1917. Jack passed his driving qualification on 25 June 1936 and retired at Wodonga on 25 September 1961. Harry Binder was born on 30 July 1898. He started his railway career at Ballarat on 7 January 1918.
