Station Sign - Fielder Fielder Station is situated on the Puffing Billy Railway in Australia. It opened as a Stopping Place on Monday 10 September 1928, as part of the Gembrook railway line. It was originally an unnamed platform, with time tables noting a station at 38 miles (61 km). In 1929, local Harry Watson constructed a Mallee shed and unofficially named it Ancaster after his home town in Lincolnshire, England, but this was quickly changed by some children to Laura, who was a young local girl. The Victorian Railways officially named it Fielder from Tuesday 5 February 1929, after a nearby resident. It was planned to name the station after the two local residents Cullen and Fielder and combinations of the two names were suggested, however Fielder was the name finally chosen. It remained nothing more than a Mallee shed with small office and a name board for the rest of its operating life. It was closed with the line on 30 April 1954 and the Mallee shed was sold to US Buslines for unknown use. After closure, the site fell into disrepair, and by the 1990s, little trace of Fielder remained. However, by that time, efforts were being made to extend the railway from Lakeside through to Gembrook, which would complete the entire length of the original line. In 1996, a group of volunteers led by Richard Schurmann in collaboration with the descendants of the Fielder family rebuilt the platform and waiting shed, which was officially re-opened on Saturday 19 April 1997 in preparation for the extension of the line which re-opened in 1998. Ann Holden married George Evans at the age of 16 in 1843. She lived at Emu Bottom and died in 1893 at the age of 67. His earliest known piece is a music cabinet of 1901; the latest is a panel of 1932 when Blogg was 81 years of age. He was a member of the Victorian Artists Society and exhibited there between 1920 and 1924. Much of his work incorporates motifs of Australian flora, particularly gum leaves. John and his family were members of St Stephen's Presbyterian Church, Surrey Hills. The present church building was dedicated in December 1910 and J K Blogg's contribution to the new building was the Hogg Memorial pulpit which is comprised of 13 panels. Blogg carved more than 300 pieces for churches, schools, royalty, family and friends. Many of J K Blogg's pieces remain with family members, but he is represented in municipal (City of Whitehorse), state and national collections. In addition to work in the St Stephen's Presbyterian Church within the Surrey Hills area his work was produced for Surrey Hills Primary School, Surrey Hills Bowling Club and Surrey Hills Methodist Church, however perhaps his most famous local work is the honour board at the Shrine in the Surrey Gardens. In 1951 Victoria commemorated 100 years of the Victorian Parliament. A protective lined keepsake box contains a black rod (in two parts) with a small plaque: "Presented by [the] silver and electroplate ware Manufacturers Association. Made by Harold C. Hutchinson, Eltham. It was first used in 1954. Black Rod is best known for their part in the ceremonies surrounding the State Opening of Parliament and the Speech from the throne. They summon the Commons to attend the speech and lead them to the Lords. As part of the ritual, the doors to the chamber of the House of Commons are slammed in the approaching Black Rod's face. This is to symbolise the Commons' independence of the Sovereign. This collection of glasses and cases was donated by Miss Connie Cruickshank. She was part of the family of Orbost's first doctor, Dr James Kerr. As the 19th Century came to a close, more and more people wore their eyeglasses everyday. A popular style of inexpensive, everyday spectacles was the pince-nez. French for "pinch nose," the pince-nez was first developed in France circa 1840 and began to be imported after the 1850s. Pince-nez have no temples, but are fit snugly on the bridge of the nose. Pince- nez could be uncomfortable to wear and broke often from falling off the nose. These items demonstrate how glasses' styles have changed over time.
